updated as of yesterday (July 21): based on a statistical model developed by a prestigious medical journal called The Lancet, Israel has killed roughly 434,800 people in Gaza since the country’s military started to attack the territory on 8 October 2023. That’s 20.7% of Gaza’s entire pre-conflict population dead. Over half are women and children.

Ya, this sounds waaaay more correct than the official numbers people have been using for awhile. Unfortunately, just like The Lancet’s last estimates, no media is going to use these.
One year ago I was literally being told “This can’t be genocide! Only 4% of population has been killed.” Now what?
Even the Romans considered decimation (killing 10% of a population) to be a brutally extreme measure. Imagine being twice as evil as the fucking Roman empire.

Entire population of Peninsula was around 28 million at the time of which 19 million were in south and 9 million in north. South lost less in absolute numbers and much less in %.
IIRC the Cambodian genocide under Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge was 25% of the population. If the Isrealis killed 40% of Palestinians, they have surpassed one of the worst mass murderers in history.
Many of those were killed by American bombing campaigns as well though
I wonder what will happen. Will the general public ever realize this? Like lets say the worst case happens and they wipe out everyone. Israel takes over Gaza entirely. Will people not wonder where the 2 million people went? How does the media spin that? Altho i guess if people arent questioning the numbers already maybe its just on purpose. They want to believe it’s smaller than it is so they can justify ignoring it.
Think they’re just going to keep suppressing dissidence until the genocide is complete and then spend the next several years sweeping it under the rug and keep on suppressing until people gradually forget about it and then the Israeli empire of genocide is just an everyday reality.
The narrative will change into there never being any Palestinians at all, and that it was just a bunch of default “Arabs” that were driven to neighboring countries
That’s not even the worst case. Israel is a fascist death cult and fascists need enemies. They won’t stop at Palestine. If they aren’t stopped, they’ll continue wars and genocides until they collapse from internal contradictions, outside sanctions or military defeat.
Lebanon is the next obvious target. Also what’s left of Syria. More war with Iran too. Remember how while the war on Iran was still going, Israeli politicians already talked about who to attack next? They favored Pakistan, but also had a whole list of other countries, including even Turkey.
But don’t think the “West” is safe from Israel! The US empire and others will surely import more and more fascist tactics and actual fascists from Israel to suppress leftists and general unrest as deteriorating living conditions lead to rising class consciousness. It’s already happening.

Is Israel what Nazi Germany would have turned out if every allied power except the Soviet Union and China had sided and backed them instead?
Nazi Germany was always a much more powerful nation, and existed during a time where it was easier for them to gloss over the magnitude of their violence to the foreigners (and there were more foreigners who liked pogroms). Israel is still not on the level of Nazi Germany, not because it’s morally superior but because it’s just not in a position to feasibly “accomplish” many of the things that the Nazis did and, as deranged as it can be, Israel does still have a mote of self-preservation.
Israel is not capable of accomplishing anything on it’s own and it’s hasn’t. It was always the US. It should really be called the US-Israeli Genocide. And the US is way more powerful than Nazi Germany ever was.

Israel is being supplied by the US and gets intelligence and sometimes direct military assistance from the US, but it can’t negate being a small country with a small population. It’s a limited vessel, one which can be broken much more easily than the US itself can be.
It also knows this and, while it also does lots of reckless things, it still is able to heel at least momentarily now and then when the US actually tells it to. It’s not just all gas every second, just most of the time.
The US absolutely can tell it to heel, and the US absolutely won’t tell it to heel.
Israel was established by murdering and displacing the people who lived there. Israel has never fought a defensive war.

When the war started, people often defended zionism by saying that if the zionist occupation fell, so would western civilisation. Thing is, they were correct. Israel is a part of the US empire. The US empire acts with impunity. Apartheid SA and Nazi Germany were not part of such an empire
It’s US American exceptionalism. What’s special is the largest military power to ever exist. Actions of Israel are actions of the US.
What they did that others didn’t is be an essential FOB for an imperial hegemony. WW2 was never motivated by saving people from genocide.
