“I’m almost surprised you’re not antisemitic Elias,” a chat member once wrote. “It usually goes hand and hand [sic] with the whole Stalin did nothing wrong mantra,” alluding to Rodriguez’s support for old school communism.

“One of the biggest things that stalin [sic] didn’t do wrong was ending the most antisemitic regime ever yet known 2 man,” Rodriguez responded.

stalin-pipe

Still, when it came to race, Rodriquez’s hatred seemed reserved for white people.

“Lol you probably would have to actually genocide white people to make this a normal country,” Rodriguez wrote in one post. “Like even a very targeted and selective rehabilitation program would probably have to lead to the lifetime imprisonments of tens of millions of white people.”

In all his rage though, Rodriguez had an almost wide-eyed optimism about the global south, which as a self-identified Maoist Third Worldist, he believed alone had “revolutionary potential.”

In answer to your inquiry :

National and racial chauvinism is a vestige of the misanthropic customs characteristic of the period of cannibalism. Anti-semitism, as an extreme form of racial chauvinism, is the most dangerous vestige of cannibalism.

Anti-semitism is of advantage to the exploiters as a lightning conductor that deflects the blows aimed by the working people at capitalism. Anti-semitism is dangerous for the working people as being a false path that leads them off the right road and lands them in the jungle. Hence Communists, as consistent internationalists, cannot but be irreconcilable, sworn enemies of anti-semitism.

In the U.S.S.R. anti-semitism is punishable with the utmost severity of the law as a phenomenon deeply hostile to the Soviet system. Under U.S.S.R. law active anti-semites are liable to the death penalty.

For example, Rodriguez attacked another member of the chat who he saw as privileged, for lamenting about the challenges of having a brother with schizophrenica. Rodriguez said in posts:

    • “Why not just have him committed? You can’t possibly be gaining anything from a relationship with a person like that.”

    • “Just put him in a padded room and forget about him. If there was a person you loved, he’s gone now. Let it go.”

    • “I’m just tired of hearing about this guy … He’s useless, we get it. Stop complaining and just dispose of him.”

Every single person on this website has said something in private at some point in their lives that, when stripped completely of context and publicized without their consent, would make them look worse than this single cherry-picked instance of personal weakness. Klippenstein, for all the value I think he has as a journalist (compared to his peers anyway), is still an American liberal anticommunist. He dug through a decade of private chats specifically looking for the most controversial things he could find, and this is the worst thing he could find to say about a committed communist sacrificing his life for the cause of Palestinian liberation.

Really depends on how fucked up the shit the schizophrenic person gets up to was tbh. Some are extremely problematic and very difficult to handle, like a danger to everyone around them, keep knives in locked drawers and expect daily instances of real and damaging violence, if they get sharp objects expect real and serious injuries, always have emergency first aid on standby… That kind of serious.

I can very much see how someone can come to the “this isn’t something you should be handling at home” position at the extremes of this condition. I can also see how some people could be so committed to NOT using a dedicated mental health home too though and having it destroy them and everyone around them.

It could be a very difficult one we don’t understand fully without greater context.

Stop complaining and just dispose of him.

Is a very fucking far cry from “you can’t handle this at home”. It sounds like he went full eugenics on the basis of “having to hear about it online”, which is not a good look. Maybe the full context is different but I have been pretty fucking ground down without ever suggesting someone “dispose” of their brother because I was sick of hearing about it.

Honestly as someone who’s been committed if I was going to be committed indefinitely I would prefer it if the person doing that out of “compassion” just slit my throat while laughing.

Many psych wards are just prisons without activities were expressing frustration gets you immediately sedated and you’re forced to fuck with your mind.

Inpatient treatment acutely works for some people, but I have never known someone chronically committed who was having a good time. Schizophrenia is pretty treatable, and only a tiny minority of people with it are ever violent towards others.

Paternalistic insitutionalising against someone’s consent is pretty disgusting. I don’t really care what the label is, people who aren’t hurting others have a right to be free and people have a right to choose what treatments they want or don’t want. People also deserve to be treated as individuals and not have behaviours assumed because some old fart in a Tweed jacket slapped a label on them.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this in like some take that this isn’t a pretty rough thing for someone to be saying… But from the perspective that I want to believe the best in people and do recognise there are some situations where I can kind of understand how people reach the end of their tether to compassion with this.

It’s rough. I live with daily stories from a family member that works in an nhs hospital though. We potentially have completely different opinions on how bad care and support is because of our different systems, I suspect it’s slightly better here than the prison conditions you’re describing of the american ones but I don’t know first hand I have to admit.

I’m from Australia. Funding is so bad nurses have to supply their own pens.

When I was committed my options were watch day time TV in a room of unfamiliar people doing strange things or try to not watch daytime TV in a room full of unfamiliar people doing strange things.

Literally prisoners have more privacy and personal space, also more books and the option for classes etc. Also prisoners aren’t forced to take sedatives that make you feel sick and make pissing difficult.

This makes sense to me. There is a specific kinda fatalistic ableism you can get watching a loved one suffer from mentally illness and take the rest of the family down with them. I am not saying it’s right. I am saying I can see how someone prone to adventurism would develop ideas like that.

Watching a suffering person make so many others suffer and knowing there might be no way to fix it is soul destroying for many people. When you consider the kind of fatalism requires for adventure time. 🧮

It is possible that all his talk of third-worldism and all that is just affectations he picked up from podcasts. Which is why the type who would do a shooting like this talks like a based poster.

I have a hard time that someone who truly believes those things also has a blind spot for ableism that hadn’t been beaten out of them by comrades. It seems more likely it’s just the leftist equivalent of a pepe poster.

also it feels weird to dig through a guys private texts for the past 10 years for the spectacle. im sure ive said things that would sound horrible to 99% of people if taken out of context from a private dm, especially stuff i said when i was much younger and pre-transition

I think I mostly agree with you, but how could it be possible to just fix the settler problem by education alone out in the countryside of the US? Would it not become a reactionary stronghold? How could you consistently find teachers in extremely white rural areas who wouldn’t just reproduce the white supremacist ideology for the next generation?

Like, think about why the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution were pursued in China. And in China, the bourgeoisie was a relatively small portion of the population even in the countryside with all the landlords. In the US, essentially every white person who owns land is literally benefitting from a multiple century long settle colonialist program. I don’t know if you fix that just by putting the more relatively progressive people in charge of education.

I imagine in this context the treaties don’t hold up because the US no longer exists, so it’s really just relocating settlers away from rural areas and letting indigenous people do whatever they want. There would need to be new rules and boundaries established due to climate change and the fact they many Indigenous nations don’t exist anymore or have been forced to leave their ancestral lands, but I think trying to relitigate old treaties is less elegant than other solutions

China is doing it to the Uyghurs in Xinjiang right now. 500 million people in prison. Putting the ethics aside, I’ve found it a pretty huge inspiration for my Factorio playthrough to try to replicate the logistical achievement.
