NATO has pretty much lost most of its deterrence value anyways thanks to the USA’s complete and total failure in the Middle East.

What, are Russia and China supposed to be scared by big bad America if it loses this badly to Iran? And all its mindless European puppet states are orders of magnitudes weaker to boot.

The only thing NATO has now is the nuclear umbrella. But the USA doesn’t need NATO for that, at least for its own protection.

And the whole US hegemony largely rests on legitimacy. The US was able to dictate to countries because nobody wanted to test the US militarily or economically. Russia and China showed that you don’t need the US for trade, and that you don’t even have to use their financial system. Iran is showing that you can defeat the US on the ground and that they’re unable to protect their vassals. All the Gulf states are now seeing that they were just pawns all along. Their countries are burning, their source of income has been cut off, and the hegemon can’t do anything for them. That’s the legitimacy crisis the US faces now. Any country they try to convince to be part of their protectorate is going to look at what happened to the Gulf states and hedge their bets.

Europe can’t trust the US for it and France and the UK have their own anyways

Well to be honest Russia and states weaker than it still have reasons to fear the US. They are still running destablisation campaigns through social and economic warfare.

Although the trump admin is burning through military strength in a foolish gambit, under a more competent administration, the US can use its assets more wisely and try to recover. And even trump’s gambits are causing large damage (at least to civilians).
