At least 120 cities plan to hold actions in solidarity with the Minneapolis General Strike.
This is fantastic, this is amazing!!
Yes, strike!
Don’t just protest and then go back to work for the same people buying these politicians.

Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman’s veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn’t been one since. That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.
16:28 · 22 Jan 2026I looked it up. These were anti-union laws. I think about how quickly the French can strike, but remember that it’s four to five giant labor unions that always call for them to happen. We’re in dire straits here in the U.S!
Sign a strike card??? https://www.generalstrikeus.com/
Not only that but keep getting more people active!! Also keep using Session, XMPP, Signal/Molly, Matrix/Element, Stoat, and Piefed to get coordinated and organize people!! Getting people to mobilize and organize other people as well. The more of us doing the stronger we all are!!
I think that the elites in France learned that it was much better to let the people strike than the alternative.
Strike and protests are the compromises that everyone agreed too.
Really? Did something happen there, during a time of upheaval? I wonder what that could have been.
How would the act effect how strikes are organized? The government is not involved no?
Unions AKA organized labor often call for strikes. Our unions have been systematically undercut in the US, and as such, we have a very limited ability to organize ourselves in collective action.
By outlawing solidarity strikes, and several other kinds of strikes. It’s difficult to organise a general strike because almost every general strike is illegal.
Solidarity strikes are illegal? Sounds unconstitutional. Enforcing sich laws should lead to the strikes spreading if it catches on.
The beauty of a genersl strike, you do not have to picket. Just not go to work. They can do little if it catches on, and beating up marchers will help it catch on.
We need to think about being able to protect ourselves marching and protesting. Especially against counterprotester type groups they will be giving license, support, intelligence, and protection to, to attack protesters unlawfully.
My area isn’t doing shit, but that doesn’t mean I’m not.
Isn’t doing shit the opposite goal here? /s
But good job, hope you can convince some others to not participate in any economic activity.
Dang I’m just finding out I have a Dr appointment but nothing else
I also have a doctors appointment! Solidarity! Haha
Honestly I didn’t get this memo that we were striking in my city.
The Europeans have it right. Americans only strike when it’s convenient.
Honestly I didn’t get this memo that we were striking in my city.
You’ve got it now, and the day isn’t over yet.
Unfortunately I work from home and Fridays are code freeze days, and we fuck around and video games together. 😭
and we fuck around and video games together
If that’s your higher priority…
They also tried to organize it with like 12 minutes of notice.
I get that it’s urgent, but if you don’t give people time to even get groceries ahead of time, you can’t really have a large-scale strike lasting longer than an afternoon.
Don’t pay a capitalist for the food and it doesn’t count. This factoid is for able-bodied privledge havers.
Playing by the rules slave-takers make won’t stop the police from destroying your life for fun.
Also planting food scraps in a gallon jug today will help with the next strike. However we need.
You all are missing the point. The Govt has systematically dismantled our labor unions, and labor unions typically call for strikes. It’s not about convenience: It’s about the ability to organize and the guarantee of a number of people participating.
Edit: sorry chillidog, i meant this as a response to the person above you.
Europeans can kiss my ass when they talk like that. We have a totally different situation here. Less than 10% union membership I believe.
Only because you have allowed that situation to arise. I’d tell youse to kiss my arse but you’re too busy kissing the boot on your neck.
This is exactly what I’m talking about. No empathy or solidarity, just talking shit to your moral and intellectual superiors.
You’re not exactly inviting empathy though, are you?
If you mean the lunatics in charge, then decent folks could say the same thing about Europeans.
No, I mean you. Going on about kissing your ass. Perhaps that’s why you’re not getting much sympathy.
All resistance is good.
Shut down the economy.
The regime needs our obedenence, do not give it to them willingly.
And keep it going! Dont buy anything unless it’s a 100% essential. Cancel all your media subscriptions. Reduce your food intake to a healthy amount. Stop going to shows and on trips. This needs to go longer than one day. I’d say three more years but we’re so materialistic it’s discouraging.
Lying flat is what I hear it’s called in China. There’s a lot we don’t need on a daily that we purchase because of consumerism. It’s finding what’s needed. Wear old clothes until they fall apart, eat less and less processed food, don’t just stop media consumption but pirate it if you can and show if for those who can’t. We need multiple pain points here that are sustained. The other part is look out for each other. Your neighbor can barely eat while working? Buy some extra non-perishables for them. Have extra clothing? Give it right to people who need it. Collectivism is how we get rid of capitalism.
As a Canadian, I’ve already boycott most American products
As an American, I can barely afford American products.
My Dad tells me some American products are cheaper and better quality than Canadian ones at the stores here in Canada. Strawberries was the example he used
Nobody is buying them and the stores have to drop the prices or watch them rot on the shelf.
Absolutely not for quality. At least for strawberries the US ones have no taste, but BC strawberries are some of the most delicious I’ve ever had. The real difference is the California ones are available year-round. The quality is so bad though I just go with frozen the rest of the year
Strawberries are luxury goods in Canada. Usually $6-8/pint here now
As an American, I mostly buy Canadian or European, except for food.
Edit: also I also buy Japanese
All of western society needs a major re adjustment. So yes boycotting American everything is good, but we need to look inward. Our lives of excess without tangible positive impact on all life in this planet cannot continue.
FYI - you don’t need permission from anyone or confirmation that others will join you to call in sick tomorrow. This is literally one of the easiest things you could do to show your support. It’s not enough on its own but if we can’t even do this much we won’t do more either.
Do it!
Good luck.
my wife is a teacher. she’s going to work because not everyone can afford to take off and a lot of folk use school as day care (and y’all shouldn’t really be taking your 5 and 6 year olds picketing against ICE when the feds are liable to use chemical weapons against you) but like, it’d be nice to just piss off and let the littles fend for themselves.
A lot of unions organize strike funds, for those who can’t afford to take off, its one of the reasons why we unionize
Although the beauty of General strikes, you don’t have to go anywhere. You can stay home, you can smoke weed all day and play video games.
Then I’ve been striking for a long time.
You joke, but not working is the best way to combat the regime.
If possible, do all business under the table and avoid corporate influence as much as possible.
Most schools are canceled today for the cold around me. South Wisconsin <-30°F windchill.
Edit: symbols
I know this is completely insignificant but Im a math teacher and your less than sign pointing the wrong way is triggering me.
The alligator eats Wisconsin
It was greater than -30 in some places…
Wait, I get what you mean now. My bad. Ha
Right across the lake it is only -5, the lake warms the cold snaps like 30 degrees in these polar masses. I read -36 in wi somewhere too.
-30F doesn’t exist here, but we get hella strong winds. A dozen MPH shy of Wyoming wind (I am blessed with excellent weather). I do not envy you that wind chill. Last time I remember the district canceling school it was flooding. Maybe fire. IDK I was shoveling sandbags or fleeing the fire, one of the two.
Keeping children, parents, families away from protests does not make them safer.
Really it’s people in key positions that need to do it that’ll affect the common apathetic person in the USA. What’s that, the local food places are closed? Where are they going to eat for lunch sorta thing.
Make the protest into a field trip?
I wish, but we take the hatch act seriously even if the turds in the top tank don’t
I’m clocking into work but like hell you’ll find me doing anything.
Can the powers that be just please stop insisting it just be for a “DAY” of resistance… thats not what a general strike is, so either call it something else or commit to the actual thing you’re pretending to promote.
Its a good step in the right direction, but lets stop pretending these performative one weekend day a month protests are making any difference at all.
If people are too worried about losing their jobs and can’t just not turn up, would an economic shutdown work instead? - like nobody spend any money. No restaurants, groceries, don’t go to the mall or buy anything on line, etc.
That’s already what this is.
I don’t know if people can stop buying food indefinitely but maybe they can all stop buying any non-essentials. Just doing this on certain days would be stupid because people would just stock up the day before
I’m ashamed to not see Miami in the map … we did great with no kings … I’ll poke around and see if anyone is organizing anything and needs help
YO WASSUP ORLANDO!
