I had a conversation with a dumbass magabrain that’s in my life and he legit said he hopes that donvict will fix the “terrible Biden economy”. This, after nearly six months of donvict doing nearly everything to fuck up an economy that was doing very, very good especially after having to recover from Covid. I told him as much and how I don’t recall things being bad at all for my household prior to Jan 20th (nevermind looking at the actual numbers) and his response?
Well, he was doing okay, too, but it’s possible not all the right people were doing okay, and many wrong people were benefiting under Biden. I didn’t have time to ask what the fuck that was supposed to mean, but I sure have a few guesses…
These people will try to rewrite history of even a few months ago and when called on it, sheepishly have to admit that claim is bullshit (usually - the spokescreatures for donvict won’t admit anything because they are paid liars, but everyday schlubs are not that agile at brazen lying in many cases) and then switch to some other topic or change the narrative to having the government suddenly needing to choose winners and losers in the “right” way. Usually choosing “winners and losers” is supposed to be bad, but this is something like “states rights”. They don’t really mean any of this shit, the base mostly just wants a white country that centers cishet white male xtian men, and the elites that run things just want the tax cuts and no labor movement that threatens any of their plans…

For sure, coal fired generators should be treated as an emergency. They’re slowly going away (in the US)/but our environment can’t take the pace. We need to treat this a lot more urgently, get totally off coal asap. I bet we could do it in only a couple years of emergency action.

Except that those chunks of coal will be imported from another country where there are fewer safety and environmental regulations while the trump’s pocket the savings.

Michigan regulators and grid officials, however, deny the existence of an emergency or shortage of power.
The emergency order is particularly odd. Typically, the Department of Energy is responding to a request from the locality in question, but that did not happen in this case. This particular Michigan facility, the J.H. Campbell plant, had been deferring maintenance as it was expecting permanent retirement on May 31, 2025. It also had not been placing orders for coal to burn, and many of its workers had been reassigned, since everyone had expected the plant to be shut down.
