I voted for Trump in 2016 . . . because I was lied to and I fell for it

    I’d rather they burned themselves

    They’ll keep voting republican

It’s a part of their identity

It’s how they compensate for not having real personalities

I literally don’t believe this happened.

    That’ll be the day.

    Is this satire?

Also, I thought MAGA’s official stance on the Pope was that Catholicism was “woke” now lol

That’s a really weird metaphor. It doesn’t really make any sense.

There’s a well known metaphor about burning your own boats so that you’re unable to retreat. But, those aren’t lifeboats.

If you’re talking about not letting people get rescued, why not “sink the lifeboats”? Setting them on fire would be annoying, but a fire would be easy to put out if the boats are out at sea. There’s water all around. The article seems to be more about not allowing people who have abandoned the sinking ship to come on board. So, why not just “ignore the lifeboats”. You don’t have to approach them and set them on fire. You can just refuse to rescue the people in those lifeboats and leave them floating out at sea.

I know driftglass has made his enemies, especially among never-trumpers and the MSM, but I doubt it’s extended to Lemmy, LOL. Maybe it’s a blogspot thing?

Yeah, the domain is blogspot with a dot com. If you search driftglass blogspot and burn the lifeboats, he’s written about it (and probably so has his wife, bluegal) and talked about it on their podcast several times over the years in regards to the teabagger movement and the offramps given to Republicans so they can temporarily claim to be “independents”, and then go right back to voting Republican.

                This blog was from 2019.

Corporate consolidation of media, systematic dismantling of the education system, decades of red-scare rhetoric and crackdowns on left-populism, corporate capture of both parties and the state-funded spread of radical Evangelical churches.

This has been the general plan for decades, ever since the New Deal and Civil Rights movement, to unwind every inch of progress ever made since the abolition of slavery. The Epstein Class will take us all kicking and screaming back into the darkness of unenlightenment, a new dark age of unspeakable horrors.

Rounding up random brown people, including American citizens and sending them overseas to prison camps?

    That’s fine.

    Raping children for decades?

    Perfectly cool.

    Cringey blasphemy?

Frankly, this is making me furious. Even a friend of mine who has hated Trump all along is telling me that this “crosses a new line” for him. I’m having a hard time not snapping at him about this. I will bury the reaction and continue smiling for now because opposing Trump is more important for now.

It’s not even the first blasphemy… There’s been so much talk and memes from evangelicals basically making him out to be a messiah and he’s totally embraced it over and over again.

Calling someone messiah is not a blasphemy tho. However, equaling yourself to God or his Son is a blasphemy. But now that you pointed it out, he was destined to fall for it at some point with his overinflated ego xD

Those are things he hasn’t tweeted or said or done on video, they are things the people who are dumb enough (all republicans) to have ever been on his side can deny or think isn’t as bad etc. This is a specific thing done by him, it’s something many of them can’t do the mental gymnastics to try to disprove, explain away or angle into something else.

I think that they were willing to go along with just about anything, so long as it seemed like he was a path to power. But, from their perspective, he’s committed the ultimate faux pa, he made gas prices go up. So his political agenda is dead in the water with no chance of recovery. This stuff is just the excuse to back away without loosing face.

The saddest part to me is that they have been conditioned and misled to this position carefully, methodically, and maliciously over a few decades. If you aren’t the type to push back and question what those around you do and say then it becomes your warped reality. It’s the same misleading ensnarement used by cult leaders.

This isn’t the first one made of him. So it took a few to push people over.

A reminder that it isn’t Trump, but the ones who support him that are the problem, and there are so many of them. And even they are also just a symptom of a deeper illness. A self-perpetuating one.

They want something to be nominally angry about because we all made fun of them for only caring about gas prices. This is cover. I won’t assume intentionality where irrationality has always reigned, but the holier-than-thou crowd prefers a spiritual boogeyman to admitting they are just selfish little children.

There are lots of problems, but some are more dependent on the others, so pick your battles. There are also predicaments. Whether or not the biggest problems are really that is debatable. But have to start somewhere.
