Unfortunate to see them continue moving away from reunification rhetoric, but not at all unwarranted.

Seems like the only way reunification can happen is if occupied Korea implodes internally. Which might happen given their demographic crisis and now a likely economic crisis as a result of the war on Iran.
Fingers crossed for the rehabilitation of False Korea, Japan, False China and Singapore.
the whole oil crisis that’s unfolding definitely makes these things a lot more possible now
Yeah, it’s certainly not the sort of thing that’s gonna come about from voting in this day and age.
Unlikely, they’ll open the floodgates on immigration if it ever gets that bad and there will be tons of SEA and South Asians happy to take that offer
That all depends on how their economy handles being cut off from their major energy supply. Nobody’s going to rush to live in a failed state if the economy collapses.
Why even recognize them as a state? The war never even ended.
They don’t. The DPRK makes no secret about their position: the existence of the ROK is the result of a naked ploy by the USA to create a country-sized beachhead that could be used against the USSR and/or China in an eventual World War 3. The ROK’s position was not too different for many decades.
All considerations about political unification aside, what would a cultural unification of Korea even look like these days? Would there be any respect for any of the cultural uniqueness that has developed in each society over the course of 70 years?
It’d have to be something along the lines of HK integration I imagine. DPRK would have to keep the existing social structures in the south largely intact initially. However, most of industry is controlled by a handful of chaebol families. So, it would be straight forward to nationalize that immediately.
Probably like the unification of East/West Germany
Selling all the republics assets for cheap to greedy capitalists who partly dismantle them simply to avoid competition, crippling half of the economy for decades?
On the nose!
No
Yup, that’s what was causing the west to treat you as a pariah

an unification
an normal unification guy
Keeping the dream of DRPK-Pop alive
DRPK
Ah, the Democratic Republic of People’s Korea
that’s what the south’s gonna be called in about 18 months, but they won’t reunify because the naming convention split is too strong
