Snip:

A spokesman for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says more than 650 US military personnel have been killed and wounded within the first two days of Iran’s retaliatory Operation True Promise 4 by Iranian Armed Forces against US military installations and warships across West Asia.

“In the first two days of the war, 650 American troops were killed and wounded,” Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naeini stated on Tuesday.

He emphasized that it was natural for the US military to deny or conceal the casualties; nevertheless, Iranian intelligence as well as all field reports confirm the toll.

He said that the Iranian strikes, which included missile and drone attacks, against US naval assets and military headquarters in Bahrain, forced the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to flee towards the southern Indian Ocean.

Keep in mind that casualties are not kills. Iran are claiming these are numbers of injured troops, not dead. The US has admitted to “several others” having concussions and shrapnel injuries receiving treatment.

from the first month of the Iraq war

I can’t speak for the Iraqi military’s arsenal at that time, but I feel like Iran’s current one is probably leagues better and far more competent

For one thing we’re not engaged in a ground invasion NOT because we’re ‘not trying to invade Iran’, but because we can’t; anyone stupid enough to order this would be sending scores of scumbags to their deaths while still in the air

Also Iraq was easier to conduct horrific attacks upon without retaliation before bothering to put troops on the ground while Iran can actually to some extent defend their airspace; Iraq wasn’t able to put up a fight even a 1/100th as Iran is doing now; if they truly made the carrier flee that easily puts them leagues beyond Iraq

Iran definitely learned from Iraq’s mistakes. But Iraq was one of the best fighting forces in the Middle East. They were weakened by the time of the invasion, but they had just won 2 wars in the decade prior.

It would make sense that this conflict is more lethal because Iran is more advanced than Iraq of 2003… and has more intelligence capabilities.

Everyone was warning that the casualties of this war would dwarf Iraq. Some were thinking of ground invasion - others were saying this more recently - with the air invasion context.

I did see something where they admitted to several hundred “concussions and minor shrapnel injuries” or something like that. Saying they were receiving treatment before going back into service.

They need to produce a bunch of doohickeys and stake their claim on “Iran Syndrome” so they can accurately report tens of thousands of casualties.
