Yes, you missed the fact that European governments, EU and NATO provide both verbal and material support to US wars of aggression. Europe is complicit in genocide and deserves everything that is coming to it.

In an economic sense they have no economy left to speak of, the EU literally pays the salaries for their entire government, and when it comes to the military they produce practically zero weapons themselves and virtually their entire ISR is handled by NATO. They are not just not a “middle power”, they are not even a functional state, they are a coma patient being only kept alive by a ventilator. If the West cut off the money and weapons they would collapse overnight. That is not a “power” of any kind, that is a proxy, a sockpuppet.

Perhaps my following of the Iran war has skewed my perspective on this issue, but I really don’t understand why the the combination of factors that Venezuela is burdened with doesn’t make this course of action seem kind of obvious.

Sorry but this article’s framing is bad. The ICC is fundamentally a colonial court. The overwhelming majority of people it has charged have been enemies of the West. It has been deployed as a weapon of Western neo-colonial lawfare throughout Africa and in the former Yugoslavia. The recent indictment of Zionist war criminals is a token exception made to bolster their credibility, knowing that the US empire will never allow any of their vassals to ever actually arrest the Zionist war criminals. This in turn is used to legitimize their absurd accusations against Russia where they claim that saving children from a literal war zone is tantamount to abduction and genocide.

For these reasons and more China and Iran never even signed onto the ICC. Russia never ratified it and has since denounced it. Venezuela is right to distance itself from the ICC, regardless of the US’s stance.

If it was up to me i would make pulling out of the ICC (as well as other imperialist organizations like the IMF and World Bank) even be a precondition for joining BRICS, SCO, etc.

If they stopped throwing reserves into doomed counter-attacks, Russia would consolidate its gains easier and then advance faster. If they retreated from cauldrons where Russia has fire control over all resupply roads, where Ukraine is taking vastly disproportionate casualties, Russia would then advance faster. If Russia advances faster, Ukraine loses the last fortified belt of cities it has in the Donbass before they have the time to build more fortifications further back.

It would lead to a snowball effect. The more they retreat the worse their position gets and the worse the morale of the soldiers gets as well, and the less people will want to fight in a clearly losing war. Also, if Russia advances faster, Ukraine cannot maintain the illusion that it is holding the Russians back. Ukraine depends heavily on projecting an image of success to maintain the material support from the West which they are completely dependent on.

The idea that if Ukraine just ran the war like a Silicon Valley start-up with AI and drones then somehow they won’t have to keep sending people into the trenches is utopian and childish. Fedorov’s stint as Defense Minister where he tried to do just that proved this. The Ukrainian generals who actually understand how a war is fought were pissed with Fedorov because he diverted away resources for his drone offensive, resources that they desperately needed to hold the front.

The former Defense Minister’s all-in-on-drones strategy generated images of burning refineries and euphoric PR headlines for the western media, but in the meantime they lost crucial locations like Konstantinovka and Krasny Lyman, all progress of Ukraine’s own spring counter-offensive has been reversed, and Russia is advancing all across the front line, even in sectors that were static for years. It has also provoked Russia into striking much harder at Ukraine’s own logistics.

Ukraine’s material disadvantages are just too large. Syrsky’s brutal human wave tactics are at least delaying and slowing down Russia. From a purely cynical perspective Syrsky was also right to push for lowering the mobilization age. Ukraine has a severe manpower crisis and there is no high-tech magic bullet that can replace manpower. All of this is extremely unpopular but the only other alternative is admitting that Ukraine has lost the war.

I have no idea what Putin is thinking. Everyone understands by now that the US is fundamentally agreement-incapable (the Russians actually coined that term, so they should know it better than anyone else), so why are they still going through the motions? Just to keep up appearances?
