Saw this mentioned in the news mega but was having trouble finding the original source, which appears to be this press release from Maine’s DHHS
There’s no capacity for a Plan B here. For normal people the Second Great Depression began a year or two ago. The county foodbank is so overwhelmed that they now restrict access to county residents, with residents of two red states driving cross-border just to pick through the scraps of our grocers. The only private foodbank employs three people and the line outside of it during its sporadic distribution hours was an hour long last year. Food not Bombs is the only mutual aid effort and it’s so disorganised that it’s bring-your-own-everything three times per week to distribute individual meals. My grocery bill has increased maybe 50% over the past five years while my wage has remained what was unaffordable in 2020, with the local labour market being hit by multiple mass layoffs and hiring freezes at the same time.
They really underestimate how much this is going to break the system.

Boy im sure glad the director at the dining hall i work at says nobody can take home food anymore!
What is the saying? Every society is three missed meals from revolution?
I made my own raw feeds for Bluesky. And I block a huge number of largest lib accounts. I don’t see the most popular posts. I assume posts with 10,000s of likes are a continuous lib circle jerk.
But I do see a hell of a lot of posts under ~10K likes. In just the last few days there must have been 100s and 100s of posts above 1K likes (including the ones I never see) about Trump’s ballroom and the removal of the East Wing. The libs can’t stop talking about it. They’re obsessed. Trump is ruining the White House! The destruction underway on the People’s House to put in his ballroom is symbolic of the state of the US! But after the GOP passed it horrible bill - Bluesky posts about SNAP, hunger, etc have been (very) rare. It seems nearly 100% out of mind for the libs there.
None of this is surprising - they’re libs (and many of them have money) after all - but it does make my blood boil. The White House is a fucking building. Taking away food and healthcare from people so that they suffer, get sick, and die is evil and an entirely different universe.

Edit
They just keep posting about the East Wing. This one slipped though my filters because there was no alt text.

Stock up on non-perishables. Look out for each other and the elderly/marginalized/people without jobs. This is going to hit my local area real hard.
Look out No Nut November, here comes No Food November

No nuts November
Just dropped off $50 of shelf stable vegan staples from Costco for a mutual aid group. Guess I’ll do another run and drop it at the food bank
Donate the money to the food bank instead. They get much better deals then you will ever.
Yessss. In my area the food bank is basically powered by corporations donating their imminently-expiring food, rotating out the entire store. Whole Foods, Chick Fil A, WalMart, pallets and pallets of food, enough to keep a literal warehouse filled.
Gallons of restaurant soup in frozen bags straight from their supplier. 13 Dr. Peppers per person. Fuck it have 3 pounds of celery. An entire grocery bag filled with random donuts from the bakery lmao
Individuals helping is good. But in comparison, money can fund the cold storage warehouse. The reefer trucks that carry it around to distribution centers. The wages all those workers are paid. The advocacy and advertising and outreach. Money!

: Progress, George. Progress. We have made more progress in six weeks than Nazi Germany made in six years.
: Well, do you think with all of this progress you could help my family find food for Thanksgiving?
: What?
: [Irritated] A turkey, some cranberry sauce, hell I’ll take a box of expired stuffing from ALDI…
: Oh, yes. What happened to those food banks you people go to?
: I don’t know, they’re gone.
: Oh, they’re out there somewhere.
