Not spontaneously and unnecessarily (re)traumatizing our comrades. It shouldn’t feel like a minefield where every post you scroll has a small chance of being gore or something that otherwise ruins your day.
it’s not even about changing your opinion, no need to make it bigger than etiquette and matching what a community says is good/polite behavior while visiting
I’m also fortunate enough to not have trigger words like this, but at the same time I’ve been here for years and never felt like I couldn’t properly say what I needed to say, even if I have to change/mask a word occasionally.
Maybe not so much the word itself but maybe the context might remind someone of having it happen to them and then having it turned into a joke.
I’ll be honest it’s a little weird to joke about sending that kind of joke to your friends. Like I remember it being used to say someone got destroyed in a video game, but outside of that context you would get called gay for making that kind of joke about same-sex friends and a creep for doing it to the opposite sex.
Don’t bypass the filter. We all knew what the word was because of context cues. The filter exists for a reason.
Not to mention it’s a quote from the linked article, and someone could just read it there.

Everyone is telling you why, how bout just change your opinion based on the fact everyone is telling you why your opinion is wrong?

I don’t even care that you edited it, it was seen by the user you said it to, so the harm was done and you’re gone
