Mod: JonsJava Sanction: multi community ban and post removals

A few days ago I created an alternate account to try out PieFed and see how I like it. My first and only post under this account was removed:

However, I checked the modlog in Voyager and didn’t see anything there. I thought that maybe it was because I had a new account or something and I got automoderated so I switched to this account since it’s older to post.

While I was recreating the post it occurred to me that using “morons” was wrong and probably violated the rules to I updated the post title as well, however it got removed also and this time I could see the modlog entry:

I got the idea to try and pull the modlog from the web version of Lemmy instance (I couldn’t find where to check it in PieFed) for my PieFed account and that’s where I also saw the same justification: “rage baiting troll”.

I also saw that I got banned from the News community for the same reason based of a post in the UnpopularOpinion community.

I reached out to JonsJava directly from the PieFed account to explain what happened and request the bans be lifted hoping to work it out directly. Instead I got another ban on my PieFed account for “ban evasion” though I’m unclear how or where I evaded a ban.

I think it’s unfair because it was a misunderstanding/system issue on my part and, as I explained to the mod, this is my legitimate opinion as an American that seems unpopular when I’ve brought it up in real life.

I didn’t ask for the posts to be put back, I didn’t even ask for my ban from UnpopularOpinions be lifted on my Lemmy account since this situation has led me to decide I don’t want to participate there anyways.

I did ask for my ban to News be lifted since I participate in that community frequently. Instead I got a ban on my PieFed account for an evasion that never happened.

Honestly, at this point I really just want a sanity check over any resolution because this really feels like power tripping to me. I don’t really care if the bans get lifted now; it’s time to be done with the fediverse for me. I came here during the API issue in Reddit and it seems to me like it’s slowly getting worse, probably the fate of all social media as the user base grows.

I would’ve banned you for posting what’s more or less a popular opinion outside of the US.

32% of the population unequivocally proved themselves to be morons in 2024, and then another 36% were indifferent to be seen as that way or not, so I think it’s probably fair to assume. The rest of them? They’re cool, I guess.

Regardless, your post was bad, and you should feel bad, and that mod was right.

PTB. Not sure why this would be assumed to be trolling unless there’s more information missing here?

In my opinion, “trolling” should not be used as a ban excuse at all. It requires an assessment of a user’s intentions and internal mental state. Which mods have proven completely incapable of making accurately.

If the only thing that comes of this is I didn’t have to scroll past some sort of rage bait post claiming an entire country is full of one type of person, then good, what a worthless post to whine about being banned over. Find something worth saying and maybe people will want to interact with you.

Nah, it’s just straight up a popular opinion that boils down to an insult. Seems to be two things not allowed on unpopular opinions.

I suppose they are frustrated because they see so many posts all day that are nothing but people calling other people names. Nothing would deteriorate a discussion faster than people just calling other people morons and adding nothing more. Imagine what the comment section would be like if all the many many many comments like yours were allowed to post. Just a bunch of posts calling other people names. Nobody would want to use the community any longer.

I think they just have no more patience. Their rules are clear about what behavior they will accept.

Should you be given a second chance? I think this is the central question. That’s up to them and their policies, and it appears they do not allow second chances.

Just sounds like standard .world reddit-esque mod behavior. Maybe try posting to a similar community on a different instance.

PBT. Some USian mods have their nickers in the twist straight away once they see opinions about themselves.
