I swear every couple years a story comes out saying some variation of “There are people living under NYC!” and people act shocked but forget as soon as something shinier pops into the news.

Where’s the real underground scene in Brooklyn these days? That’s right, the realest underground there is, the sewer system.

People haven’t really lived in the tunnels in significant numbers since the MTA cleared people out and sealed up entrances after the '93 wtc bombing.
