I think she’s sincere. Trump’s whole candidacy in 2016 was based on destroying Jeb Bush by associating him with the Iraq war and how Americans need to spend money at home, not on “stupid wars in the Middle East”. So he has done a 180 on that, like he just talked about how we can’t pay for day care because we need money for the Iran war. For voters that were taken by this lie it’s understandable that they would have vertigo.

It may be that she has come to her senses - at least now she pretends to be a somewhat decent human being. However, that does not change the fact that she is a hateful, malicious racist who herself participated in and profited from the crimes of this fascist regime.

The fact that she is now doing an about-face does not change her malicious character in the slightest.

I am from Germany, and our country still suffers today from the fact that the goddamn Nazis were not eradicated after the end of World War II - many got off scot-free despite their heinous crimes and were even left in their positions of power, thereby actively participating in the rebuilding of postwar Germany and, accordingly, exerting their wreched influence in this democratic country as well, from which we still suffer today.

We must not show these monsters the slightest bit of understanding, because as soon as they are in a position to do so, they immediately start terrorizing decent people again. These people are simply incapable of living peacefully with others because they lack any sense of empathy - it is impossible to engage in a discussion with them, because they do not act rationally but are so blinded by their selfish hatred that they cannot help but follow their inhumane ideology.

Did any Nazis you mentioned show any remorse? I think she’s sincere, too. I don’t think she should hold public office anytime soon, but she’s not seeking it, so far.

Of course, almost all the Nazis who remained in office after World War II despite their inhuman crimes renounced their ideology and pretended to show remorse.

In West Germany, which at the time was occupied by the Allies under U.S. leadership, there were even “denazification programs.” Nevertheless, numerous former Nazis remained in high-ranking positions.

One of unfortunately many examples is the Nazi judge Hans Filbinger. Even in 1945, shortly before the end of the war, he had still handed down numerous death sentences. Nevertheless, after the war, as a member of the CDU, a conservative party that remains one of the strongest in Germany today, he served, among other roles, as Minister-President of the state of Baden-Württemberg (1966–1978).

This man was a staunch Nazi throughout his whole life and was personally involved in their crimes. Nevertheless, he escaped punishment and remained active on the political stage for a long time after the war - it was not until 1978 that he was forced to resign due to public pressure regarding his Nazi past.

Unfortunately, there are many examples like him. The main reason was that the U.S. wanted to quickly build a “bulwark” against the Soviet Union at the time, which also included East Germany. Therefore, many Nazi officials were left in their posts to restore the country’s ability to function as quickly as possible after the war ended. In my opinion, this was one of the gravest mistakes of postwar history.

All I’m trying to say is: People capable of such crimes are fundamentally unfit for government office because they are incorrigible monsters. They will never change, and that is why it is best not to trust people who have already dropped their mask of civility - they should be held accountable for their actions, because as long as this does not happen, they will wreak havoc again as soon as they get the chance.

Edit: Btw - Taylor Greene does not show any remorse in this post: she just shifts away responsibility from her to her cronies.

I don’t think MTG is an incorrigible monster. I think she was a useful idiot who is waking up to that fact. I still don’t think she should be in public office, though.

Well, she clearly has no problem working with monsters in order to profit from them.

There were countless examples of this, especially among the business leaders of Nazi Germany, not a single one of whom was ever prosecuted - and yet they profited so massively that their companies remain among the most influential in Germany even today (examples: Thyssen-Krupp, Siemens, BASF, etc. - all of these corporations, that are all still multi billion dollar corporations today, employed forced laborers during the Nazi era, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands).

Why am I saying all this? It simply seems to me that many US citizens are quite obvious still unaware that their government - and indeed the majority of the billionaires who actually hold the reins - are textbook fascists.

This includes Taylor Greene, even if she is merely a profiteer, just a small cogwheel in this wreched machine.

Once again, my point: If neither the profiteers nor the puppet masters are held accountable for their actions, the U.S. will soon become a state like Nazi Germany was back then. I consider this inevitable if US citizens fail to intervene, just as the citizens of the Weimar Republic did back then - the predecessor state to what is now rightly recorded in history books as one of the most horrific states that has ever existed: Nazi Germany.

Two recommendations: Look into the history of the term “fascism” and how Benito Mussolini, who significantly shaped the term, originally understood it.

Read “Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil” by Hannah Arendt, which is unfortunately absolutely relevant again today, even though it describes the mechanisms that made a profoundly evil state like Nazi Germany possible - nothing has changed; the mechanisms are still the same.

No argument against this. Most are stubbornly denying that Democrats are part and parcel of the fascist regime.

My issue is, she was wrong. But she’s now admitting that. She should probably face sanctions and community service, but any more than that will discourage coming to terms with the truth, and speaking about it publicly. The biggest perpetrators going unpunished is heinous, so get them removed from society, them deal with the truth tellers who came to the truth late.

I don’t have a list like that, but you can be sure the fascists do.

I simply want to point out how disastrous it is to let people like this accomplice get away with their crimes unpunished. It is exactly this attitude that put the heinous orange pedo in the position he’s in today in the first place.

Now the disgusting fascists all over the world are crawling out of their holes again to join this monster and once more spread misery and war across the globe.

History is repeating itself right now, and the reason for this is the lack of consequences, especially for the most serious of all crimes.

          I’ll put it this way.

          She either:

1-Was always reasonable and was just doing this stupid hateful act to gain power on Trump’s coat tail.

2-Is truly the hateful idiot we came to know and is putting on this reasonable facade to be on the “right side of things” when the Trump shit show comes to an end.

Either way, she’s a grifter and cannot be trusted.

People don’t just grow a brain and some decency overnight.

If you trust her, then you are doing exactly what they want you to

This is about dialling bsck the vicious hatred once they know how far they can push it, and then waiting that to become the new baseline

      Then they’ll push it again

That’s how the Overton window works, and how stupid Americans think the Dems are “left wing” when by every metric they’re very far right

Americans as a people are stupid on their best day due to the indoctrination and ruination of the education system

Deliberate and transparent plays like this are a shameful symptom of this

I don’t blame you, OP, but I’m disappointed

I too think she’s sincere. But I also think those people on soapboxes saying “the end is nigh!” Are also sincere. I honestly even think Trump is often sincere. He said everything out loud. Nothing he’s done is surprising, he was honest about all the awful shit he would do if re-elected. And he’s done everything he can to make that reality. Just because someone is sincere in what they’re saying doesn’t mean they don’t suck ass or that their words come from a sudden awakening or some kind of growth. Hell, she might have leaned left the whole time and just went right in public to get a long term seat in an easily winnable district as long as she’s red and bonkers. With people like that you can’t trust ANYTHING they say, ever. And if they suddenly change course, it’s even more suspicious.

Someone who looked at Trump’s words and actions for years and cheered for almost all of them does not have the capacity to say or do anything selfless, such as in this case she expects us to believe she really cares about the damage he’s doing to… Literally everything. She has us shown repeatedly she does not care, and she’s been shown to prioritize her bigotry over literally every other concern. Where have you been if you can think she’s even capable of sincerity?
