Maeve@kbin.earthtoAltMedia•Imperial Hypocrisy About “Terrorism” Hits Its Most Absurd Point Yet3·12 hours ago
Nearly one in three people in Gaza has gone without food for days, putting more lives at risk of starvation, according to the United Nations, which accused Israel of continuing to obstruct humanitarian aid efforts in the Strip, Anadolu reports. Speaking at his daily press briefing on Monday, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Israeli authorities—referred to by the UN as the occupying power—had rejected three out of eight humanitarian coordination requests made by the organisation on Sunday. He said the rejections were hindering the UN teams’ ability to carry out critical relief operations.

Among early rabbinic commentators, the common reading of the sin of Sodom was its cruelty, arrogance and disdain for the poor. The sages of the Babylonian Talmud also associated Sodom with the sins of pride, envy, cruelty to orphans, theft, murder, and perversion of justice. While the event which sealed the fate of the Sodomites was their demand for Lot to bring out his guests so that the mob might “know” them, this still was not seen so much as an act of sexual excess, but as hatred of the stranger and exploitation of the weak. Midrashic writers lavishly portray Sodom and the surrounding cities as arrogant and self-satisfied, destroyed for the sins of greed and indifference to the poor. Rabbinic legends about Sodom describe an area of unusual natural resources, precious stones, silver and gold. Every path in Sodom, say the sages, was lined with seven rows of fruit trees. Eager to keep their great wealth for themselves, and suspicious of outsiders’ desires to share in it, the residents of Sodom agreed to overturn the ancient law of hospitality to wayfarers. The legislation later prohibited giving charity to anyone. One legend claims that when a beggar would wander into Sodom, the people would mark their names on their coins and give him a dinar. However, no one would sell him bread. When he perished of hunger, everyone would come and claim his coin. There was once a maiden who secretly carried bread out to a poor person in the street in her water pitcher. After three days passed and the man didn’t die, the maiden was discovered. They covered the girl with honey and put her atop the city walls, leaving her there until bees came and ate her. Hers was the cry that came up to God, the cry that inaugurated the angelic visit and its consequences.
Maeve@kbin.earthtoAltMedia•US pours $1.5 billion into building secretive sprawling Israeli military bases2·12 hours agoTake Tel Nof Airbase, for instance. A US-funded project there—referred to in documents as “Site 20136”, involves major upgrades to prepare for Israel’s new CH-53K military helicopters. This means building new hangars, expanding runways and setting up advanced maintenance areas. Another project, called “Tama 38/58,” is focused on overhauling Israeli army facilities used to repair tanks and other armoured vehicles. Although it shares its name with Israeli urban planning codes, this US-funded “Tama” project has nothing to do with civilian infrastructure, it’s purely military. And that’s just the beginning. Other US-backed initiatives include constructing new piers for the Israeli Navy, building underground bunkers, expanding weapons storage, and even renovating housing for US personnel stationed at Israeli bases. One massive site known as “Site 911” is an underground command centre, built with millions in American taxpayer money. Another, “Site 81,” is a secret facility beneath a building in central Tel Aviv. Together, these projects paint a clear picture: the US isn’t just supporting Israel with weapons—it’s physically building the infrastructure of Israel’s military power, on Israeli soil, with American money.
He’s just goosing the stock market.

We will not unload military steel from the Ever Golden – no to Greece’s involvement – freedom for Palestine,” the union said. The Ever Golden is operated by Evergreen Marine Corporation, based in Taiwan, and managed by Japan’s Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd. It flies under the Panamanian flag and was sailing off the coast of West Africa on 9 July. The ship previously stopped at the port of Singapore between 12 and 13 June. It is expected to dock in Piraeus on 14 July, carrying 75 bundles of military-grade steel originating in India.

Yes, we’re not only that unaware of history, but that propagandized.

He recalled his father’s words: “Independence is not a gift. We cannot import democracy or revolution; we must create our own. What works in the United States may not suit Burkina Faso. Venezuela has chosen its path, and each country must decide what is best for its people.”
If only the global West could innerstand and overstand this.

I’m sure your analyses are closer to accurate than my best guesses. I suppose what government or economic system states call themselves (or what media calls them) mean fa anymore. I’m not sure if we live in a post-truth world, or always have and it’s just so glaringly obvious, only those really emotionally invested in their illusions and those without mental capacity to identify them (whether through overwork and other stresses or direct learning/developmental disabilities) insist otherwise. Maybe most fall somewhere between those points, I’m certainly not as informed as I prefer.
I’ll have a look tonight or tomorrow. My project hours are all over the map, right now, which means my neighborhood and household obligations are, too.
Cheers!

I have no idea what was going on with my keyboard the other day, I was typing English, my message displayed English, on screen. I posted it, answered a call, and when I looked again it was partly English, partly Mexican Spanish.
Beyond all that, my smart devices made me dumber than dirt with regard to spelling, remembering phone numbers, and to a lesser extent, grammar; but I largely blame that on myself, having picked up the habits of my current neighborhood. I’m working on improving it, so do please call me out on my nonsense!

I’m guessing the architects of the bill are fully aware of this and the bill acheives the actual goal. They want a desperate, schismed populace for a guaranteed supply of easily exploitable wage and chattel slaves.
Is there nuance for Iranians? Russians?

Is there no form of conscientious objection there?

Oddly, often IRL people think I’m joking when I’m serious and serious when I’m joking. And the inverse is true as well. A few years ago some guy I never met spoke to me as I was refueling, overly familiar. I asked if I knew him and he said he’d seen me around and told me who his brother is, and I disbelieved him, since neither favor. About that time, that guy pulled up and I said the other guy was trying to say that they’re brothers by blood. Turns out he wasn’t kidding. I was embarrassed. Once looked like their father, the brother like his different mother.
