What’s your point? I agree they didn’t start it, but they have the US trapped now and have no reason to let them out without ensuring they won’t be attacked again and establish control of Hormuz.

My point is, as soon as US troops leave the area, the war is over.
Iran has no reason to continue it.
They have no way to ensure they won’t be attacked by the US again.
            And they already control Hormuz.

Before the US attacked, Iran would have faced insurmountable international resistance if they tried to tax traffic through the strait. Now that the US attacked, that has completely changed the political situation. If the US leaves, Iran will continue, at a minimum, to tax all those ships. That will be a disaster for Trump’s strong-man personae.

Also, Iran does not want this to happen again. As they have stated several times, only security guarantees against future aggression by the US and Israel will being an end to the conflict.

And they still try in good faith. US assurances and treaties aren’t worth the paper bearing the words.

I never said anything about a treaty. Security assurances are typically something more concrete. At one time two kings might trade children for security assurances. Ukraine wants security assurances before they will even consider any kind of cease fire. In their case, it might be joining NATO, or European troops on the border.

I have no idea what might work for Iran. Chinese military bases in Iran maybe? In any case, communication from Iran has been consistent. They are fighting this war until they know they won’t have to fight it again. The US leaving won’t end it. The US is caught in an escalation trap, and Iran wants to keep it that way for now.
