He did! The first things he cut were agencies that could (theoretically) go after Elon Musk and his lies and fraud. Also NASA, so that SpaceX can get more contracts for that shit.

They knew what they were doing, but they had to disguise it in a bunch of weird random shit, instead of doing only very targeted cuts that directly help Elon.

“they didn’t really know what they were doing.”

As a result, agencies are now scrambling to assess the damage and rehire lost talent. However, her report documented that agencies aligned with Trump’s policies appear to have an easier time getting new hires approved, despite Kupor telling Reuters that the government-wide hiring freeze is “over.” As of mid-November 2025, “of the over 73,000 posted jobs, a candidate was selected for only about 14,400 of them,” Kamarck reported, noting that it was impossible to confirm how many selected candidates have officially started working.

There is no smugness to be had here about the “stupidity” of this project. The working class still loses. What has been destroyed stays so. What can be cobbled together will be a more disciplined, anxious workforce.

The only sliver of a good thing is by way of general example: Ask forgiveness (if you can call it that) not permission. We should be so bold when we have any power. (Although arguably the leverage and leeway to accomplish this have been built over the course of generations so it’s not even a great argument.) One day, land reform and wealth redistribution will shake things up so they cannot be put back.

It’s cool how we basically made everyone’s lives worse for about ten months and then tried to undo it. Same with all the tariffs suddenly cut when they realized that it was increasing grocery prices.

In reality, the American government isn’t lean. It’s incredibly heavy. It’s just that all of the weight is dedicated to intervening on behalf of the capitalist class and not the working class. If “small government” politicians weren’t disgusting liars, the first things they would gut would be the military and intelligence budgets, followed by police budgets.

ya the fact that every major outlet was parroting some version of “Doge has been established to cut ‘wasteful spending’”, taking the whole thing at face value.
