As the everyday use of AI has exploded in recent years, so have the energy demands of the computing infrastructure that supports it. But the environmental toll of these large data centers, which suck up gigawatts of power and require vast amounts of water for cooling, has been too diffuse and difficult to quantify.

If there’s any consolation, there is a shit ton of rich people who are not going to be able to build their personal Disney lands in remote areas away from the peasants because of the water strain.
I mean, they’ll just build it somewhere else, but at least they’ll get to feel a small fraction of what climate change will bring. Maybe some of them will start believing in it.
It’s starting, but it’s gonna get a lot worse in the next four years.
