The irony is, the mod was in the comments arguing politics. My comments were removed, and theirs weren’t.

Even when I was the one trying to tell them that I wasn’t going to argue with them because they have removed my comments for being off topic in the past.

    This is factually proven PTB.

This comm is not the place to continue discussions from elsewhere or a drama haven.

This mod action wasn’t just intelligent, it was actually harm reduction.

It’s a known thing that folks with ADHD may engage in internet arguments for the dopamine. Divide by Zero has a number of neurologically atypical members, and while we’re a self-governing herd of cats (the majority of which seem to have level heads), we can’t always stop engaging in stupid, needless, dumbass arguments when we should. Especially when mixed with people of… differing ideology.

The comments section was allowed to mature enough that a majority of people weighed in on the original point of the post, the mod action, before it devolved into arguments about the content of the post being actioned. That’s the perfect age for locking the thread.

An analogy- the pirates were allowed to get into and distribute the rum. They were allowed to drink and sing. When they started fighting, that’s when the cat o’ nine came out. This is appropriate and about the only way to run a ship.

ETA: I hope you all know how fucking difficult it was for me to approve of someone in a position of authority in public like this. I’m real glad there’s zero ties to this account and anything to do with my real life because I have a fucking reputation, thankyouverymuch.

Having had to lock posts because the conversation was going off the rails and getting very heated and political… that is the right call.

If the purpose of the community isn’t being served by the discussion, it should be shutdown, let people have their internet fights somewhere else.

Nothing is stopping you from making the post to continue the argument elsewhere. Or making a community to have that argument.

If a gardener doesn’t want to have people fighting in their garden I see no problem with that.

Exactly. That scenario is exactly why locking is possible. You lock the thread so people can’t keep derailing, and are forced to actually take it to the appropriate places instead.

OP is just butthurt because they couldn’t argue politics in an apolitical community anymore.

Don’t bring the argument into the comments. That was the right call.

You deserved it! Way too much crying going on in comment sections lately.

Why do so many of you go to communities that you disagree with, start shit, get banned, then come here to continue the shit stirring in the comments?!

Guys if you don’t like a fucking community, just block it or avoid it. WTF?! lmao
