I don’t usually pay attention to whichever instance I’ve drifted into from all, so if you see me in a weird place, that’s why!

  • No one who has been paying attention is surprised.

As I’ve said in the last however many posts people made to YPTB about feddit- yes, you guys have been breaking the rules. But these rules are fucked, so that is a good thing!

Do the unlawful thing in a space where the laws are wrong and immoral and unjust! Why is this so hard to understand? Get banned by assholes! Wear that shit with pride! Call a nazi a nazi to their face! Anyone protecting nazis is a bastard! Scream that genocide is real! Getting banned from an online space isn’t even a slap on the wrist. It’s so barely inconvenient, it’s literally the least you can do!

  • Any community member is allowed to rule on any action placed here. We’ve even had mods pre-emptively post their own actions here for judgement. That’s not stirring the pot, that’s normal community engagement. (It would be stirring the pot if she had engaged with the topic, and not the mod action. Big diff.)

I really didn’t want to actually post a response here but your mugging for the audience, “hey look at this comment!” behavior is such a pet peeve of mine. If you’re going to accuse Ada of being a zionist, accuse her. If you’re going to complain about the mod action, do that. But “here’s a quote from someone else, and I’m going to side-eye the situation” is so… gutless, and adds nothing.

  • This mod action wasn’t just intelligent, it was actually harm reduction.

It’s a known thing that folks with ADHD may engage in internet arguments for the dopamine. Divide by Zero has a number of neurologically atypical members, and while we’re a self-governing herd of cats (the majority of which seem to have level heads), we can’t always stop engaging in stupid, needless, dumbass arguments when we should. Especially when mixed with people of… differing ideology.

The comments section was allowed to mature enough that a majority of people weighed in on the original point of the post, the mod action, before it devolved into arguments about the content of the post being actioned. That’s the perfect age for locking the thread.

An analogy- the pirates were allowed to get into and distribute the rum. They were allowed to drink and sing. When they started fighting, that’s when the cat o’ nine came out. This is appropriate and about the only way to run a ship.

ETA: I hope you all know how fucking difficult it was for me to approve of someone in a position of authority in public like this. I’m real glad there’s zero ties to this account and anything to do with my real life because I have a fucking reputation, thankyouverymuch.

  • I feel like this community serves a great purpose. And I’m a massive fan of drinking my tea and reading all the drama it attracts. But I am just beyond tired of the same handful of commenters popping up to always agree with whoever is opposed to blahaj.

I give this one a YDI. Anybody posting anything transphobic who gets caught by Ada is gonna be banned. Any instance with a mod or admin who makes transphobic posts or comments will get defederated. No one is entitled to having their content served on Ada’s servers, and the people who join blahaj know that, and seem to appreciate it.

Which is sort of why I always wind up agreeing with her. Her server has clear, concise beliefs, and clear, concise administration, and she has the clear-throated consent of her governed or they would leave.

The only server whose vibe I appreciate more is divide by zero. Shout-out to what I feel is the most neurospicy, nonconformist bunch of pirates I ever met.
