Some of us were against the Israeli government before it was cool! Some of us have family in Israel who cried when Netanyahu got elected because he was a “murderous fascist.” Some of us watched those same family members support this latest genocide…
Some of us are already crying over realizing our Jewish family members are actually cool with Nazis. This genocide lifted a veil and revealed some really fucking ugly people.
The unfortunate reality is that most people accept state propaganda and whatever people around them believe without much pushback. It takes an unusually principled person to stand up to their friends and family and say this is wrong and face the social and potentially even legal consequences of doing so.
This abandonment of principles is a fascinating aspect of human nature.
It’s well documented that we reduce our empathy and altruism when we’re under stress.
Some fraction of people won’t pay any cost to keep their ethical first principles.
Some fraction have deeper wiring to either conform to an in group or to follow a strongman or strong hierarchy.
We are doomed if we can’t find a way to bioengineer our way out of this, considering we already have nuclear weapons.
I’m not sure that I agree with the bioengineering part, but maybe I don’t understand what you mean. I’d love it if you’d elaborate.
Sorry for the late reply.
It seems to me that the above items are part of our nature. We haven’t yet figured out a sociological or technical solution to the problem of war, for example, despite huge scientific progress in other domains.
So it seems to me that it is in our nature. We are wired for in-group bias. So I think we may have to change our biology before we lose these tragic aspects of humanity, or else they will keep resurfacing.
It’s kind of far out though. And we definitely don’t have the tools yet. And there are huge issues, both ethical and practical, with implementation of something like this. Brave New World stuff.
But if, in the future, we could somehow surgically target some secondary messenger protein or something which would reduce the likelihood of conflict without side effects, it would be nice to prevent Armageddon-level war.
Many 20th century philosophers cited nuclear weapons as our greatest existential threat.
To be honest, before this I never had any idea of the plight of the Palestinians. I knew the bs “settlers” was just kicking people out of their legally owned homes. I had no idea that Israeli people considered another race the same exact way the Nazis considered the Jews. History has taught these people nothing.
Only took us 80 years of genocide to figure it out.
Good?
No, it just educated people on the horrible crimes they are committing and that they are not the victim. Israel doesn’t like that at all.
That is NOT TRUE! MOST AMERICANS are just Anti Semetic! TRUE Jews and Jew Lovers ALSO love Genocide!
