The damage inflicted by Iran on US military bases in the Persian Gulf region, including from a successful attack on a US base by an Iranian fighter jet, is far worse than publicly acknowledged by the White House, NBC News reported on 26 April.

[…]

Most notably, an Iranian F-5 fighter jet successfully evaded layered US air defenses to bomb the US base Camp Buehring in Kuwait during the early days of the US-Israeli war on Iran, the NBC report stated.

The successful strike directly undermined US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the Iranian Air Force had been “completely obliterated.”

The last incident of an enemy warplane successfully hitting a major US military base reportedly occurred in 1953, during the Korean War. North Korea’s air force carried out a low-altitude night raid in April of that year that killed two US soldiers on Cho-do Island. For more than 70 years following that incident, the US maintained near-total air superiority over its military bases.

if a 50yr old jet fighter managed to evade Russian/Chinese air defenses, completed its mission and returned safely home, you would never hear the end of it from NATO fanboys.

I wonder if other countries have (or will have) their one genre of trashy books like in the USA where some outdated piece of military equipment magically gets transported to a future, technologically advanced, battlefield and saves the day?

the monkey’s paw curls it’s one of those Boston Dynamics robot dogs they’re always kicking over and it defeats the Sasquatches because it’s immune to their main move.

That’s cool, how’s the story? I never got much from the game besides us fighting some terrorists or something. But it’s one of my favorite Shmups that I’ll play occasionally or listen to the OST.

It’s about mercs in a fictional west asian country who fight in the war to repay debts they owe. They get cash for flying missions, it follows a Japanese pilot. I didn’t get very far because I shelved it for berserk to finish that up.

Oh it gets much more fucked up than that. The pilot it follows, Shin, his story is that his friend got him drunk and tricked him into signing the merc contract, his buddy did this to try to get him killed/out of the way so he could effectively try to steal his girlfirend. The plan run into a small snag, Shin just happens to be really good at being a fighter pilot. And so it follows him trying to make enough money to buyout the contract so he can escape and go back to life, except…

              spoiler

Shin after getting out finds that he spent so long effectively fighting for his life and survival that he ends up going back to being a merc because he just can’t adapt back to civilian life.

If you wonder why it feels like a ace combat plot, that’s because ace combat’s inspiration is vaguely said to be Area 88. Which is also why I have near zero confidence that AC8 is going to good because all the promotional material feels like they dropped every single bit of the Area 88 inspirations, and dropped Top Gun in it’s place.
