Beware of the latest round of anti-Venezuela disinfo being spread through social media.

Snip:

More specifically, Venezuela rejected fake news published by the British outlet The Guardian, which claimed that Acting President Delcy Rodriguez and her brother, Jorge Rodriguez, had “secretly” reached an agreement with the United States for the removal of President Nicolas Maduro.

The narrative presented suggests that the Rodriguez offered to cooperate with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump and with Qatar once Maduro was kidnapped and forcibly removed from Venezuela.

Since the kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores on Jan. 3, dozens of false or misleading reports have circulated, including claims showing the Bolivarian leader wearing prison clothing or alleging armed uprisings within Venezuelan territory.

The spread of fake news tends to move rapidly among social media users, who do not verify their accuracy and often legitimize the fake news by sharing them it with others. This media behavior is exploited by actors interested in generating confusion, hatred, and violent actions.
