The American Jewish community is in open crisis over its support for Israel after two years of genocide in Gaza. A key issue in this crisis is a topic once considered too taboo to criticize: the Israel lobby.
The Israel lobby can try any social media tactic or political campaign maneuvering as they wish, but it will not paper over the abject cruelty they have inflicted on the human beings of Palestine, Gaza, the West Bank and parts of Lebanon. Many nations gave and still do give plenty of the benefit of doubt to Israel to a level that implicates us with the horrors committed, but this genocide has gone long enough that people and countries have lost their patience.
If Israel wishes to rehabilitate their image, the first step is to stop killing Palestinian men, women and children. During each ceasefire deal they’ve shown themselves incapable of that.
The second step is to treat their prisoners with a minimal level of dignity, and stop torturing and having them raped. They can deny it or saying they’re investigating the exceptional case, but since that UN report on the de facto policy of torture, the onus is on Israeli’s part to show to an international standard they have completely ended these practices.
The third step is to let go of aspirations of Greater Israel, and get serious about co-existing with Palestinians and their neighbour states. Part of the dogma around their historic lands echoes expansionist rhetoric of Hitler. So if they want to not be compared to Nazis anymore they should stop acting like them and cooperate in a regional, democratic peace.
