Seems the issue has been simmering for quite a while now (Since the French ruined their borders, basically) but started to escalate after a Cambodian soldier was shot in May by Thai troops.

As of right now, Cambodia claims that the Thai military has occupied the Preah Vihear temple, which courts decided in 2013 belonged to Cambodia. There’s some other stuff about F-16s and landmines that this article goes into.
