  • you are unlikely to have to right to get an appointment for one.

Again, this is not a universal experience.

Its strange that you just replied saying “you are unlikely to blah blah” to a comment where I said I had to LIE in order to get it scheduled because they were not going to let me have one until I was 50. They were going to let me go on my way for the next 8 years with just a normal breast exam that found nothing. Then they found cancer which was only at stage 1 because I pushed to have my cancer screening done at 42 and not 50.

So nice for you that you don’t have to fight for your healthcare, but some do and its a PITA.

  • The most frustrating part of this is if you are under a certain age (at least in the US) its very difficult to get preventative screening. If you are under 40, you have to FIGHT to get a mammogram and usually have a lump you can feel and do an additional appointment before they will scan you. Also good luck getting a colonoscopy before you hit 50, if you are under 40 you have to be actively bleeding out of your ass to get a doc to schedule one.

EDIT: guys you can tell me all day how easy your personal healthcare experiences have been and it doesn’t change the fact that many many people do not have the same easy time getting preventive testing done as you and many times they use your age as the reason. This is relevant because the article is talking about cancer rates raising among YOUNG people. Not the old farts that are over 50.

  • Its not a controversial take, lots of us in the sober community don’t mesh with AA. I would never bash another persons path to sobriety, but the way they look at people who get sober working the steps vs people who chose other paths doesn’t sit great with me. I also don’t like the direction AA steers people to feel helplessness around addiction and giving your recovery to a “higher power”. But like I said - what works for some may not work for others, and I would never stop anyone from finding and walking the right path to recovery from them, as I have for myself.

If you see this and you are looking to experience sobriety and you are not feeling like AA is for you, there is lots of options out there like, Allen Carr’s Easyway, SMART recovery and Recovery Dharma just to name a few. But also please if you are struggling, feel free to DM me. I am always happy to talk.

  • My cat is gone now, RIP to the sweetest girl, but in her time she was the top one to everyone else and the bottom one for me. At the vet in her file it was written in red ink with yellow highlight “CAUTION”, but she would let me roll her around all over the floor on her back and put my face right in her belly without any issues. Its good because in her later years she had stage 4 kidney disease and her being that comfortable with me made it very easy to give her Sub Q and maintain that treatment for over 2 years.
