Drug use is culturally viewed much differently than it is in Western countries. Something as benign as cannabis use is often considered as bad as fentanyl. What Duterte did was give law enforcement the authority to execute anyone suspected of drug use or dealing. You didn’t have to be proven to deal or use drugs.

The war on drugs the United States had was nothing alike. Duterte literally had people killed to stop drug use.

I’m surprised Trump hasn’t been railing against ICC for Duterte’s trial.

If the U.S. adopted the same rules that the UK have regarding the media and election, we’d shut up a lot of people.

EDIT: To my understanding the media (primarily television) is barred from discussing elections on the day of an election.

I should have clarified that it is HSI that is there, not ICE.

The thing that is being buried by most headlines and maybe articles is that ICE is a part of Department of Homeland Security. One such part of DSH is Homeland Security Investigations. People are conflating the two. HSI has been for many years at such international events with a U.S. presence to conduct investigations regarding international crime and terrorism.

EDIT: I should have clarified that it is HSI that is in Italy, not ICE.
