States don’t pay federal taxes, citizens do.

Campaigning and fundraising is already happening but both parties. If there weren’t going to be midterms, the GOP would not be freaking out about them, campaigning, or fundraising. And they are freaking out about them.

But most importantly there is no such thing as “canceling midterms.” States run them, not the federal government. I will be at the polls in November and for the primaries before that and you should be too.

This is just moving the goalposts anyway. I was told that we would never have elections again. We had a lot of them in 2025 and they went very well for the Democrats. Then I was told midterms wouldn’t happen. Well they’re sure about to. And now it’s already moving to “midterms will happen but there will be voter suppression.” Yeah, welcome to America. There’s always been voter suppression. And we vote and make progress anyway.

Midterms are already happening. And Republicans need them to happen anyway.

Also the union is defending him.

It’s a popular stance, he can start a GoFundMe and not have to worry about money for a while.

Didn’t they already try this and lose?

Not purely symbolic. This will still drag her down and waste her time and resources at a bare minimum. This counts in the “everything” when people say Dems should be doing everything they can to impede the administration.

Was the bar up to code? I have no idea what building codes are like in Europe. I get the feeling that even if codes are as strict as the US, a lot of older dangerous or disabled-unfriendly buildings are grandfathered in due to the age of cities there.

We start with elections.

Trump owns the agencies, the national guard, the military and supreme court.

Which is why the SC ruled in his favor and there are currently Marines and National Guard enforcing state laws in LA and Chicago.

And when the courts said Trump couldn’t send in Marines and National Guard to enforce state laws did he ignore them and do it anyway? Nope, he fell right in line and obeyed the ruling.

Checks and balances - even with a conservative majority Supreme Court - is what got federal troops out of LA and what has kept them out of my home city of Chicago. So yeah, I still have a little faith in the system.

Fully agree that it’s not enough. But people who run around saying the Trump administration is just doing whatever they want, are not being challenged on it, or are winning those challenges are just reading headlines on social media without really paying attention to the news.

There actually is a lot stopping that. Are there federal troops in LA and Chicago right now? And why or why not?

States run their own elections. “Cancelling the election” is not a thing that ever could or would happen. Nor is a new constitution, as that would require 34 states to even call a convention and then 38 states to ratify one.
