  • so the plan for the war where the main problem is the closure of the straight of hormuz, is to close the straight even harder??? The plan to remove the mines seems like a no-go but instructing the navy to “seek and interdict every vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran” seems very possible. Basically they’re going to be doing piracy, going to ships, and probably seizing their oil. If they can get intel on who paid, they can harass ships outside of Iran’s missile range. Realistically, they’ll probably harass ships that never paid the toll while accusing them of paying. Physically, they could do it, but I’m sure there are consequences I can’t think of off the top of my head

What’s up with Turkmenistan? I know it’s a former Soviet country but I only ever hear of them in that context, I have no idea how they interact with the Muslim world

According to Wikipedia they and Iran are chill 👍🏻

Iran and Turkmenistan share a common border of more than 1000 km. Since Turkmenistan’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the two countries have enjoyed good relations and have cooperated in economic, transportation, infrastructure development, and energy sectors. The two nations have strong historic ties.

Other points: -Turkmenistan is mostly Sunni Muslim, but I didn’t see anything about sectarian conflict between them and Iran

-Turkmenistan is another major natural gas producer, and north Iran actually imports gas from them sometimes

-Turkmenistan is recognized by the UN as a “formally neutral country” and apparently that value is also enshrined in their constitution! Idk if they do anything behind the scenes or if things would change if push came to shove, but good for them :)
