Palestine@lemmy.ml•An aerial image of Gaza’s port during the Israeli offensive reveals the massive destruction compared to before.
2010·2 months agoNah look at the sand on the top of the image. There are no buildings there, so why is it vividly colored in the top image and has zero colors in the bottom image? Someone has turned up the saturation on the top image to 11 and 0 on the bottom image.
Like what is happing in Gaza is terrible, but stuff like this just gives the other side something to shoot at. And I feel the image would hit harder if it were a fair comparison, so the same settings for both. The beach still being beach colored and the streets being gray with rubble would hit hard.
The reason he mentioned weight-loss is because it’s a trope that people showing before and after pictures of weight-loss often use techniques like this to show a more pronounced (or even any) effect. In the before they have bad posture, use an unflattering angle and reduce the colors to make them look worse. In the after picture they have perfect posture (often even holding in a breath and clenching muscles), use a good angle and crank up the saturation a bit.

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•Do you think rooftop solar will get cheaper after the tax break is gone?
7·2 months agoLooked up the invoice for you (rounded the numbers for simplicity):
Panels (8x) including micro inverters, all of the mounting hardware, cables etc. - $2500 Hardware for upgrading the electrical panel - $400 Labour, various items, delivery costs - $600
IIRC it was 3 dudes for about half a day. Two dudes for the panels and an electrician that checked what the panel dudes did on the roof and upgraded my electrical panel.
I felt like it was a pretty good deal. Panels could have been cheaper, but I wanted the full black ones. And a single inverter would have been cheaper than micro inverters, but the panels are partly shaded a lot of the time due to a tree. Calculations I did showed the extra price of the micro inverters would be worth it to get the most out of the panels.

19·2 months ago$21K for 6KW? Holy shit…
I had a 3KW system installed in 2022, total costs were around $3.5K (including some changes to my electrical setup to fit it in). Looking up current pricing around here, the same setup would be cheaper still.
6KW is obviously bigger and your situation may be more complex, but anything above $10K seems like a ripoff for me.
Well I’m going to start my own Wikipedia, with blackjack and hookers!
