There might be something to this idea that societies founded on genocide, slavery, etc are sick at the core, which raises uncomfy questions about America, Israel’s biggest enabler.
um… did my bio get deleted?

Israeli society is unrecoverable at this point.

I can’t wait until Lemmy 1.x drops and I no longer have to read comments from those users.
The instance it came from does

Yeah, I’m housing and food insecure and stuck living in an environment which decimates my ability to work due to sensory issues. It is fucking brutal.

Nice!
I have been considering making some less-niche communities than the ones I’ve already made, but I have health issues which cause me to disappear occasionally for a day or three, which gives me pause. And I don’t really know anybody well enough to be a Number One to my Picard or whatever when it comes to running a community.
Actually, if I had this question settled, I’d almost certainly be running an entire small threadiverse instance by now, and a microblogging one too. And maybe a Pixelfed for good measure.

To anybody concerned: don’t engage with .world communities. Instead, bring your traffic to similar communities on other instances. The ability to do this is one of the main points of federation, and .world with its shitty moderation holds way too much sway in the (let’s be honest) still-tiny threadiverse.
It’s easiest to do this, on Lemmy at least, by blocking .world as an instance. Doing so won’t block .world users commenting elsewhere, although when Lemmy 1.0 ships you’ll have that option too. But blocking .world forces you to build a vibrant thriving threadiverse elsewhere without a too-large and too-problematic instance siphoning away any of your traffic and growing even larger as a result. I do this, and I don’t feel I’m missing out by doing so.

I don’t think it’s practical—or even healthy—to try and list every possible insult or epithet that might get someone banned. That’s why I keep the rule simple: “Be civil.”
The problem is that nobody other than you considers “bro” to be uncivil.

That’s fine, clearly what goes on on .world is important to you. I’m just here to use the platform and not find myself drowning in the results of shitty moderation on there, nor in comments from people who quit reddit 2 weeks ago and haven’t fully detoxed yet.
The sum total of all that mess, for me, is that I have no interest in contributing to communities on .world, so I block the instance. And when Lemmy 1.x ships and allows me to block comment threads from .world users, I’ll transfer my one community that I mod to an account which doesn’t block .world, and block comments from the instance on my personal account as well.
I only started using Lemmy in earnest recently and I’m not emotionally invested. It sort of supports your point that something needs to change, given that it took me only a few weeks of active use to determine .world was enough of a mess that I was willing to “cut off an arm,” for what I perceive less like a hangnail and more like gangrene.
But yes, it’s not just poor moderation. I also don’t like reddit ass comments from reddit ass users, and I do things like block the bsky bridge on microblog fedi for reasons which include both the stink it brings and an idelogical commitment to not boost content from there on fedi. Everybody has their own way of doing things, people who believe my way is full of shit, or that they want to participate in positive change on .world, shouldn’t block it. I’m just here to enjoy my time and share/discuss interesting links, and exposing myself to .world would detract from that aim more than it furthers it.

I’ll keep beating this drum until the situation changes: the best solution is to block .world and move on. I’ve done so, and I have zero shortage of interesting content to look at or places to discuss $topic. And anyway, it’s not healthy for one instance to have too many users or too many communities. The point of federation is to spread out, so the network is resilient to problems.

It doesn’t even need to be something serious like politics. Console wars, sports teams, or just a TV show that rubs some group the wrong way.
Certain dipshits do this with every post that mentions “AI,” which has been a problem when trying to discuss it in any form, including random machine learning topics, how to selfhost, compsci videos about how the algorithms work, etc etc etc.

lol props for admitting you work at BK, I worked at two on two different coasts back in the day. The east coast one was rated the worst BK in the state by internal metrics when I worked there.

People in ths thread and others think we are trying to rot brains of lemmys
I’ve always perceived this as both a very weak and insulting argument for defederation or whatever drama people wheel it out for. It was used a lot in various Mastodon defederation dramas.
Like, you (purveyor of said argument) really think your own homies are that weak-minded that mere exposure to right-wing posts will some how turn them into zombie rightoids? You think I’m that weak? And that’s the reason for defederating or bullying them or whatever? Fuck off.

lemmy.world is the lowest common denominator, fresh-off-reddit instance. people posting “this is the way” and bringing a glossary of logical fallacies to an adult conversation and thinking they’re clever.
I don’t participate in a single community hosted on that instance, and I feel it’s improved my experience. some instances block .world because it’s such a fountain of drivel. ymmv.

I almost never see it touched on, that a rogue state engaging in depravity inevitably degrades its own citizens and poisons its society. Alon Mizrahi at least mentioned it in his recent video, which I recommend. It’s probably not any brand-new ideas to anybody in this community, but imo it’s an unusually good single-serving summary of the why behind Israeli depravity.

They’ll keep doing it as long as Trump’s lil bitch ass keeps licking Bibi’s boot in public even when issuing a “rebuke” for bombing a primary US ally.
Given Trump’s uh, personality traits, he must be seething with rage over being punked again by Bibi in front of the entire world. But Miriam Adelson still holds the leash, for the time being. If Bibi keeps it up, though, Trump’s narcissistic rage over being revealed as a bitch to everyone with a set of eyes may take over.
