I’m guessing you don’t know that vaccines generally rely on heard immunity to be effective? If a significant portion of the population doesn’t take the vaccine, even people who have the vaccine might get infected. On another note, immuno compromised people might have legitimate reasons for not getting the vaccine, and rely on that same herd immunity.

Wind and solar is not a constant controllable source. Theoretically, fusion would allow for a very consistent and large base load. Tidal power so far has had lots of issues afaik. Turns out it’s really hard to make reliable generators that are in constant contact with salt water. Don’t get me wrong, all of those other sources are going to be extremely important, but fusion will absolutely be worthwhile if we can actually get it running.

You assume the Democrats expected the Republicans to actually accept this. I’m certain they didn’t, but now they can truthfully say that they tried to compromise to reopen the government and the Republicans still turned them down. Politics is very much a game, and this was the right move to play.
