Trump managed to lie about there being a deal and not totally contradict himself before it went to press, which is so uncommon it qualifies in the present day as order.

The amendment defines Retirement holdings, individually-owned assets, and other forms of personal savings to include “pensions; retirement accounts, including but not limited to 401 (k) accounts, 403(b) accounts, and all other individual retirement accounts; mutual funds; and all personal property, whether tangible or intangible, including but not limited to financial assets, investment accounts, business interests, digital assets, intellectual property, personal belongings, and other assets used to produce or collect income or savings for retirement or financial planning.”[1]
The initiative contains a competing measures provision stating that, if this initiative receives more votes than the competing measure, it would prevail in its entirety over any other measures on the 2026 ballot related to taxing personal assets.[1]
So it’s outlawing taxes on any form of property. Yep, the prop name about retirement accounts and format is totally a lie to prevent a billionaire tax.

It’s a Senate seat. They’ll pay until their check-writing hand falls off.

The White House said there are no conflicts of interest involving the president or his family in these transactions.
L…o…l
… Which I now realize looks like a stick dude throwing their arms up in resignation, which is about right.

That’s pretty much the entire Trump administration’s defining qualification: No intention to do the actual work, just to not let anyone else do it.

“If he chooses to nominate somebody else and asks me to go do something else, I will say, ‘Thank you very much. I love you, sir.’ I don’t have any goals or aspirations beyond that.”
So he has no goals or aspirations beyond doing what the president asks him, and makes sure we all can hear that he loves him (“sir”).
So… a totally independent AG committed to upholding the rule of law then.
It’s like the Mitchell & Web Lucentio sketch, but with the roles reversed. Todd, are you sure you wouldn’t like to just…have a sweaty tumble with Trump, and leave others to sort out the admin of…I dunno, upholding justice?

The court merely reopened the case, it’s not yet clear whether they will prohibit it. And though Todd Blanche told lawmakers the fund was dead, there’s nothing stopping him from changing his mind.
(Edit) Despite the editorialized headline, it appears the bill that passed doesn’t allocate the money, but that they merely refused a Cassidy amendment seeking to affirmatively bar the fund from being created from other funds. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong here, but that’s what the article seems to say.
It’s worth remembering, though: Republicans, are truly pathetic sycophants who will shirk any hint of responsibility, to a person. A judge and Blanche’s comments would probably be enough for them to pass it and rationalize that it’s “dead” anyway (before a big “oh well!” when it actually happens later).

I’m so glad I can finance a demented megalomaniac’s insatiable need for self-gratification with the portion of my mortal life I’ve exchanged for these tax dollars.
Thanks especially to Scott Bessent and the other sycophants who are coldly calculating and agreeing to exchange my life for their power.

Thanks for posting the text. Not surprising to see Neomi Rao lobbing softballs to the DOJ and signaling what she needs them to say to vote in favor of Trump.

Anyone else seeing this GIF as a psychedelic pulsating seizure?

Trump flexing one of his only two moves again: reward friends, punish enemies.

What a shock. Trump is replacing the former AG who was and continued to act as his personal attorney with a new AG who was and continues to act as his personal attorney.

Preview of Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger
Yes, it’s a preview Ellison and Weiss are giving - for Trump. We’ll probably see a social post soon, “Seeing great things at CBS News, I hope the merger is approved soon!” You know, his typical mafia-style signal that a 3rd grader could see through, so Carr and other toadies fast-track the merger.

Goes without saying, but it’s incredibly hard to speak truth to power even knowing it would likely cost him the job he’s devoted his life to for decades. Most of us have already stopped trusting CBS News, but this is a big signal to all the regular folks that there’s political interference.
The only thing that could make Pelley, Alfonsi and the other departed staff’s actions even better (which of course they don’t owe us, but just saying) would to be to start or join a different organization and keep their reporting alive. The biggest thing which we all still lose if they disappear is that their journalistic and ethical standards are that much harder to keep alive for the next generation.

Hmm. That’s strange, you can’t?
Have you tried being a sleazebag conman born into too much wealth to experience any real human need, spending your life systematically avoiding or discarding all moral responsibility? That’s usually the step people forget.

“b…b… but they said crime was legal as long as I did it!”
I mean, most likely he dies never having experienced a consequence, but I can dream…
*Over a million times.

Trump on COVID: “If we stop counting, we’d have fewer cases.”

I hope companies, senators, housemembers, politicians with any modicum of power are taking notes.
Trump is a sociopath and follows standard abuser tactics. He will push things as far and as fast as you will allow. It usually doesn’t take much, in fact just a sharp needle, to pop a trial balloon. Maybe going forward you all can do literally just the absolute minimum of your duty to the Constitution and your constituency, politicians?
Ignore the downvotes. Sane, non-fascists should all be allies regardless of where they live. There’s a good chance those downvoting have rising fascist populism threats in their own borders too.
To people are downvoting or blaming anti-fascists within the US just because they haven’t “solved” fascism yet, I’ll just say: if you actually care about stopping Trump and fascism around the world, try to make friends and not enemies. Fascists would prefer we fight each other.
