  • The amendment defines Retirement holdings, individually-owned assets, and other forms of personal savings to include “pensions; retirement accounts, including but not limited to 401 (k) accounts, 403(b) accounts, and all other individual retirement accounts; mutual funds; and all personal property, whether tangible or intangible, including but not limited to financial assets, investment accounts, business interests, digital assets, intellectual property, personal belongings, and other assets used to produce or collect income or savings for retirement or financial planning.”[1]

The initiative contains a competing measures provision stating that, if this initiative receives more votes than the competing measure, it would prevail in its entirety over any other measures on the 2026 ballot related to taxing personal assets.[1]

So it’s outlawing taxes on any form of property. Yep, the prop name about retirement accounts and format is totally a lie to prevent a billionaire tax.

  • The court merely reopened the case, it’s not yet clear whether they will prohibit it. And though Todd Blanche told lawmakers the fund was dead, there’s nothing stopping him from changing his mind.

(Edit) Despite the editorialized headline, it appears the bill that passed doesn’t allocate the money, but that they merely refused a Cassidy amendment seeking to affirmatively bar the fund from being created from other funds. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong here, but that’s what the article seems to say.

It’s worth remembering, though: Republicans, are truly pathetic sycophants who will shirk any hint of responsibility, to a person. A judge and Blanche’s comments would probably be enough for them to pass it and rationalize that it’s “dead” anyway (before a big “oh well!” when it actually happens later).

  • Goes without saying, but it’s incredibly hard to speak truth to power even knowing it would likely cost him the job he’s devoted his life to for decades. Most of us have already stopped trusting CBS News, but this is a big signal to all the regular folks that there’s political interference.

The only thing that could make Pelley, Alfonsi and the other departed staff’s actions even better (which of course they don’t owe us, but just saying) would to be to start or join a different organization and keep their reporting alive. The biggest thing which we all still lose if they disappear is that their journalistic and ethical standards are that much harder to keep alive for the next generation.

  • I hope companies, senators, housemembers, politicians with any modicum of power are taking notes.

Trump is a sociopath and follows standard abuser tactics. He will push things as far and as fast as you will allow. It usually doesn’t take much, in fact just a sharp needle, to pop a trial balloon. Maybe going forward you all can do literally just the absolute minimum of your duty to the Constitution and your constituency, politicians?
