It does sound paradoxal at first but is actually quite logical. The person without a PHD enters the corporate market at a younger age with a lesser degree. He has an easier access because he can get paid less and is more accepting of more menial tasks. PHD candidates are older, expect higher salaries due to their higher education, but actually have less corporate experience. That’s why the article is calling for a better preparation to work outside of academia jobs

Never thought I’d see Tunisia mentioned as a beacon of democracy and/or progressiveness. It’s just as oppressive there, just in the opposite direction. That’s the issue tho. Are tips earned money or just a bonus? Many countries, including my own, are saying that, as an employee, you get a wage that is taxable, and tips that aren’t, because they’re an optional bonus from a client, that have absolutely nothing to do with your wage. The “tips are part of your income” thing you do is a uniquely american tradition.
