As in, much of the national ruling class in the south are basically just middlemen for western capital, so even though they benefit greatly from that arrangement, the southern elite don’t have any independence to act in their own interests to the extent their western can.
So, they ally with the leftist from a nationalist and liberatory perspective, which can easily overlap with the working class and peasants.
In the west, such a class collaboration would just become fascism or coopted by the ruling class, but since the southern elite can’t act in their elite class interests, they find themselves closer aligned with the workers.
