Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•GPS darts could prevent high-speed chases. But CT lawmakers are putting the brakes on them
17·1 month agoWell, tracking darts would be better than flock cameras that always track everyone. It would require action by the police that they would have to justify, rather than all data being hoovered up and accessed freely.
Whenever I see that subglasses and hat avatar, I know a bad and strawman-y take is coming.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Israel says Greta Thunberg more influential ‘antisemite’ than Nick Fuentes
16·1 month agoAs evidence of Thunberg’s antisemitism, the Israeli government pointed to her use of “terms such as ‘genocide,’ ‘siege’ and ‘mass starvation’ in reference to Israel’s actions in Gaza.”
So evidence of critism of bad things unrelated to Judaism?
Are they arguing that when other people do these things, those terms apply, but not to Isreal? Sounds like discrimination to me.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•300 million on the streets in a historic national strike in India
1·3 months agoOne of the major demands of the strike was the withdrawal of the trade deals India has recently agreed to with the US and the EU. The CTUs, SKM, and left parties in India have called the deals a surrender of the country’s sovereignty and harmful to the interests of the millions of farmers in the country as they allow open access of Indian markets to foreign farm products.
As someone not from India I think I must be missing context. It sounds like they would like India to remain a semi-closed market, as I have heard it has been for a very long time.
Usually trade deals are a viewed aa good thing, at least in the west. Of course, you can have situations where contries assets are owned and controlled by foreign entities while lining the pockets of politicians, which is bad. Not sure if that’s the concern.
Anyone want to add some context?

3·3 months agoPrison labour exploitation was already bad in the US before, when you actually had to be convicted of a crime to participate. Now we just have force labour camps for people who just happened to be born with the wrong genes.
Sounds awfully familiar.
When are the allies going to invade the US and free those under their tyrannical regime? When will the US get sanctioned? (Hint: never)

1·8 months agoControversial take (though maybe not in this community):
If it’s needed for survival, it should be free. No exceptions.

This is a tough one.
Protesting the actions of a synagoge should be legal and protests are most effective outside the organisation itself. At the same time harassment based on identity needs to be prevented.
IMO that law should not exist. Anti-discrimination laws are enough of a tool that you don’t need this sort of legislation.
