A few weeks ago I had to correct someone on Lemmy who was blaming Obama for the “great recession”. The comment even had a bunch of up votes.

Other people proceeded to also argue with me that Obama, who was sworn in on Jan 20th 2009, was responsible for the Great recession that started December 2007.

This was known long before the 2024 election.

The reality is if he did release it, the base wouldn’t care. This is a man who bragged about walking in on little girl beauty pageant dressing rooms. Bragged about being able to grab a woman by her pussy. Admitted he was attracted to his daughter. Suggested that if he walked on 5th avenue and shot someone, he wouldn’t lose any voters. Then proceeded to make that statement true by getting a million Americans killed by COVID.

I’ve actually seen that argument from tankies on Lemmy.

I really don’t like the “it’s a distraction” argument. If everything today is a distraction for yesterday and tomorrow will have more distractions for today, then they are no longer distractions. It’s a figurative shotgun blast of bullshit on a daily basis and hoping most of it sticks.

All of this assumes we will still have elections.

One of the last steps in Project 2025 is issuing Martial Law and using that to cancel elections.
