A lot of the left always knew that academia and university were inherently political and not “pure truth” or “pure science” as people idealise them to be.
I hope those who would always argue that academia is pretty much perfect are now taking note.

This person earned that diploma, and it seems absurd that they’d be able to withhold it for something like this.

In fact was a bit surprised seeing this headline in the first place, as SUNY and CUNY tend to fly below the radar (i.e., wouldn’t usually need to take a stance on a divisive issue) but you’re right that it’s likely pressure from wealthy alumni.(apparently not a suny school at all! Yeah… that’s not what’s going on here. The anti-Zionist movement in the West calls for Western countries to take diplomatic and economic action against Israel. That includes cutting ties, not selling weapons, sanctions, embargoes, etc. This is a lot more than “group X should stop killing group Y;” it’s “we should stop group X from killing group Y, at least not with our weapons”. This ruffles a lot of feathers in the political and corporate establishment for a few reasons, some rational (in a psychopathically self-interested sort of way) and some not.
