Yes, many Americans do understand this. But many others do not, and those are the ones in charge now. We don’t want them to be in charge but there’s not much we can do about that at the moment.

I don’t understand why non-Americans assume we’re all as stupid as the trumpers.

We are not a hive mind.

You’re right. When I said “do Americans understand” I meant “do Americans who support Trump understand” I should have been clearer.

It’s all good, I’m just a bit of a bitch when it comes to American stereotypes, since I fit absolutely none of them. I’m not fat or stupid or loud or rude, I love to read, I hate guns, I hate pickup trucks & fossil fuels, I love trying international foods, I’m humble… (this current comment notwithstanding)

People like me feel like we’re surrounded by idiots, and the idiots are in charge, and it’s terrifying. Then the idiots (trumpers) tell us to leave if we don’t like it here, and yet why the fuck should we? They’re the ones ruining everything.

Anyway - yeah we do know these tariffs are a tax on us. Personally, I wouldn’t mind a tariff on some things - if the proceeds went to strengthen social programs to protect & help those affected by the loss of jobs to foreign manufacturers. But the trump regime is pocketing this tariff money and telling the common people to suck it up.

But many others do not, and those are the ones in charge now.

It’s not a question of understanding. It’s a question of what they choose to tell the rubes.

there’s not much we can do about that at the moment

There’s a lot we could be doing, but we’re not.
