The breakdown produced by the National Taxpayers Union found the biggest effects in states and industries scattered throughout America.

Sectors hit hardest by tariffs in the top 10 states include automobiles and auto parts; steel, aluminum and other metals; clothes and shoes; and food and beverages.

For example, businesses in Michigan have paid an extra $23 billion on imports, largely cars and trucks. Meanwhile, the food and beverage sector was hit hardest in Florida, where importers have paid an extra $11 billion since Trump began implementing new tariffs in 2025 through Aug. 4, 2026, according to the conservative organization’s analysis that drew from Census Bureau import data.

Bryan Riley, director of the National Taxpayers Union’s free trade initiative, described Trump’s tariffs during his second term as “a very costly policy.”

“If you’re in a state like Georgia, big tariff costs are mainly because there’s a lot of auto manufacturing in Georgia, surprisingly to many people. And then that’s not going to be the case in New Mexico, which doesn’t have a lot of auto manufacturing, so (there are) less tariff costs and different categories hit in each state,” Riley said.

The analysis did not account for any court-mandated refunds the Trump administration must pay back after the Supreme Court deemed the president’s initial emergency tariffs illegal. Those refunds to businesses are not necessarily passed on to consumers.

Much more in the article.

I just hope the fucking morons who can’t decide between R and D (and especially the ones who keep deciding R against their own interest) can hold this thought in their heads for one more month. That would be great.

There’s going to be a lot of billionaire sponsored slop to convince them otherwise, so it’s not exactly clear.

You non-American will never learn. There is no solidarity here, there is no respect for the law. There is only “patriots” and their religion is guns and Jesus, and they HATE everyone else. They are taught that we are foreign invaders in their land (even if we’re the same race and were born here too) and that we are trying to take from them.

I really don’t want to live through a civil war so we are going to try whatever else we can first. Sorry, not sorry

I never claimed to be brave. I simply talked about the brave people who changed their systems despite the danger on their life while the usa is not yet a dictatorship. You seem to prefer the usa being a brutal dictatorship and be forced to change the system the hard way

        I’m not American, mate.

Nevertheless, the system will never be changed. That should be the baseline for any discussion about American politics.

I didn’t . My point was that the two party system is the reason why trump won and if you keep it you will get more trump like politicians in the future . Your point seem to be the reality is the reality and we will not bother trying to change it

Um, the two party system explains why donnie “won” in 2016 and in 2024 but lost in 2020? I’m not sure I’m following.

No. My point is that it will not be changed. If the best you can offer is a violent revolution, you proved my point. A violent revolution is worse than anything else and can result in a worse dictatorship than what you’re currently seeing.

A disorganized rebellion would have nothing against the oligarchs and their propaganda and military machine.

Tariffs is just tax to fund Trumps super corruption policy. There is a cost to filling swamps. I wonder how much more americans are paying, relative to the tax they were paying before Trump.

It’s an interesting article. I was unaware which states were hit the hardest by tariffs. I kind of figured my own state was on the list, but didn’t know the industries.
