A small aircraft appeared to have struck the tallest building in China’s capital on Friday afternoon, in a shocking incident in one of the world’s most fortified cities.
Sorry it’s a video so no archive. China’s 9/11? Probably just an accident.
Since May 1, the Chinese capital has been effectively drone-free under sweeping new rules. Residents are not allowed to buy, rent or fly drones without government approval within the city’s sprawling jurisdiction.
That’s not particularly unusual, a lot of places control drones under their air traffic legislation, it’s just not really enforced so recreational users don’t know about it. You have to register flight plans, obey a bunch of no-go zones etc here but no one bothers you if you’re just flying a shitty little 200g thing. I bet it’s similar in Beijing (may even have some carve outs for consumer drones, lotta places do). But of course Chyna Bad, so can’t report accurately…
In Poland there are restrictive rules for drones, except small toys with no camera, and the tallest buildings even in most cities here are commieblocks lol.

From the very unbiased sources I see on XHS, this is actually enforced, and people do find it annoying. On the flip side, people also complain about other people flying drones anywhere, so

Nation’s capital city has anti-drone legislation.
America: it’s for the good of the nation! It stops antifa from airdropping algae into the reflecting pool and foreign spies gathering information
China: ominous and authoritarian
