Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon fell to its lowest level in eight years during the most recent monitoring period, according to new data from the Brazilian Human and Environment Amazon Institute, or Imazon, offering a major environmental milestone while underscoring the continuing vulnerability of the world’s largest rainforest. Between August 2025 and March 2026, approximately 1,460 square kilometers of Amazon rainforest were cleared, representing a 36 percent decrease compared to the same period one year earlier.
