Making everyone automotive dependent was a choice. Many small villages in Spain even have train stations (for dubious rider numbers…) Nearly all of the Dublin suburbs within the motorway loop are <45min cycling to the Dublin center. Automotive dependence is expensive. The public pays for the private car, the gas, and the roadways. It’s not the best choice.
Too bad Ireland has never had the foresight to consider building trains and public transit. It’s really the ideal size for it.
