For a second I thought they actually tried to deport the immigrants via a shipping container and somehow were stupid enough to get in with them. But now that’s what passes for temporary housing at the Djibouti base. It sounds like it sucks ass at that base in general.
Shipping container barracks are pretty common. I used to be part of the process in their fabrication back when I was pursuing a career in fabrication. I wanted to learn the process because I had homesteading pursuits that I felt like could be reached through similar methods. Constructed the right way, they’d be pretty comfortable if they weren’t packed in there like sardines.
A part of me still has the desire to give it a shot, it’d be a lot more scaled up than a single unit though, I consider them to be building blocks. An idea I’ve wanted to do is have them in a hexagonal shape around the center with a inner garden sanctum
True, but metal is the medium I know how to work with best and some sort of structure already there makes things easier, especially if you want to design it in a way that you can shift around as you see if and reconfigurate the layout as you expand

It makes it seem like the empire has budget cuts to the outposts in Africa
Sorry but thats just copium. Shit like this has been perfectly normal in any remote US outpost since WWII.
Yeah you’re right, but I did say “makes it seem like”, but it’s not surprising.
Nope, they’re relatively cheap so they can be placed down en masse. It’s not about quality but quantity

Didn’t we have a struggle session about repurposing used shipping containers as cheap housing?
Did we?
yeah maybe 10 years ago i could get a shipping container tiny home for ~30k and it seemed fine, slightly better than an apartment unit the same size

ooh yeah courtyards are fun
Would be better, or at least easier. to just do a big rectangle with them with a courtyard inside I’d guess.
Rectangles are boring
No they’re not.
Posted on a rectangle. From a rectangle. Inside a rectangle. To a rectangle.
You don’t even need shipping containers to make this a reality.
