I once attended a courtroom where an indigenous land defender who was arrested for blocking a rail line was on trial. Just a few years prior the judge was the head of legal for the rail company in question, didn’t disclose this, and it wasn’t found out until way after the trial had already been decided (some jail time and some very hefty fines), appeal wasn’t granted.
