All truckers and bus drivers will have to take their commercial driver’s license tests in English as the Trump administration expands its aggressive campaign to improve safety in the industry and get unqualified drivers off the road.
The majority of the non-English speaking drivers are licensed in Canada and Mexico. So this doesn’t address that issue.
The other issue is that if you actually removed all the non-English speakers from the road, you’re talking like… half of all the CDL drivers? Maybe over half. You can’t suddenly replace that group with English speakers overnight, it would take many years.
Instead, seems like the system should be to trying to teach the existing drivers English? Is that somehow harder?
