The former Navy captain and astronaut says "we're in some seriously challenging times".

US Democratic Senator Mark Kelly has said he will “seriously consider” running for president in 2028 as he battles the Trump administration over a video in which he urged military personnel to refuse illegal orders.

The Arizona senator, who was accused of “seditious behaviour” by Donald Trump over the November clip, said he and his wife, Gabrielle Giffords, received “many” death threats after the president’s comments.

“We get them on a weekly basis now,” he told BBC Newsnight. “We had to get security to protect us 24 hours a day.”

Asked if he was considering a White House run, the retired Navy captain said he was considering it “because we’re in some seriously challenging times”.

    I’ll be the first to say I used to really like him and I will if I have to But…. I honestly think we’re occupied by a hostile genocidal foreign power and it’s a problem. He needs to denounce the genocide and come out for a two state solution. Still he’s better than Gavin

      We need to get out of the situation we are in first, and then move to fix the other problems. Complaining about this when the US is speed running fascism is like bitching that you’re stuck in a burning building but you don’t want a fire truck to come save you because it has a noisy dirty diesel engine.

        You don’t think part of that is we’re literally partners with Netanyahu while the rest of the world has issued arrest warrants for him, the fact aipac and Epstein and Ghisline’s MOSSAD! blackmail has any relationship to the situation we find ourselves in? I disagree I think history will look at Netanyahu the same as Hitler and Mussolini because the entire world can see that they’re partners in fascism and the AIPAC uniparty we have in office who is currently cheerleading a war in Iran that will cost trillions for Israel’s benefit just sinks us further into fascism because I guarantee another uniparty Israeli backed democrat isn’t going to reverse any of the damage of this administration and if we don’t ratchet WAY left out of fascism land we’re screwed. Although I’m skeptical we will ever have real elections again without violence
