Democrats scored a stunning upset on Saturday in a special election runoff for Texas Senate, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ, giving the party a major boost ahead of the November midterms.

The district favored President Trump — who endorsed Wambsganss earlier on Saturday — by 17 points in 2024. The race went to a runoff after none of the candidates were able to clinch a majority in the November election.

You’re circling the point without really identifying it. Dems lost in '16 and '24 because they did not hold primaries and just hoped that there were enough people opposed to Trump that they’d vote for whoever they chose.

On the other hand, in what might be the only credit you can give him, Trump faced three primaries in the Republican party and won them not by the party leaders pre-selecting him, but by actually being more popular with voters than the other guys.

2020, yes, but 2016 wasn’t about Trump. The Dem establishment had already decided “it’s her turn” well before Trump even won being taken seriously, and before his first primary win in NH. The Democratic Party eliminated the democratic process from its primaries and is baffled why people are mad at that.
