You all know how serious China is about giant pandas. When things went to shit with the US, China took back their pandas. They are a sign of trust and goodwill betwen the nations.

A male panda cub, nicknamed “Rio,” was born Nov. 27 to mother Hu Chun, at Taman Safari Indonesia

According to the Associated Press, the park stated that Rio is “noisy,” “nursing well,” and displaying key early indicators of good health, including strong vocalizations and steady weight gain. Rio remains under 24-hour monitoring by animal care teams and will remain hidden from the public for several weeks. In the short term, the park’s staff expects the newborn to develop temperature regulation, grow more fur, open his eyes, and begin early motor movements.

The name, Satrio, meaning “knight” or “hero,” was announced on Dec. 4 by Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto during a meeting with senior Chinese official Wang Huning. Rio’s arrival reflects what the zoo describes as the “hope, resilience, and shared commitment” between Indonesia and China to safeguard endangered species.

The cub’s panda pandas, Hu Chun and her mate Cai Tao, arrived in Indonesia in 2017 “as part of a 10-year conservation partnership with China,” the zoo stated. The two adult pandas live in a dedicated enclosure roughly 43 miles (70 kilometers) from Jakarta.
