Israel being yellow while openly murdering journalists (A LOT of them) is saying everything you need to know about how trustworthy this report is.

The U.K. is yellow and the U.K. press had a character assassination of Corbyn.
Australia is yellow and it’s news media is mostly owned by the government or 2 guys.
At least one of those has a lot of influence on our media too.

Plenty of countries got into crosshairs due to the new wave of international propaganda.
Unfortunately, there aren’t that many ways to combat it under truly free speech, so many have chosen to outright ban various sources linked tto potentially malicious actors.
But once that is done, the gates are open. Now that plenty of governments have the power to ban whoever they deem bad, the freedom of press and democracy are under threat.
Oh hey, it’s the same map, for seemingly everything. “Freedom” in this case largely coincides with the freedom of the wealthy to influence and buy the press and spread their messaging.
You know everyone talks about press freedom, no one talks about how the press got us to this point by just creating lots of sensational news for views. Or not covering things with the necessary context, and end of the day playing into the states agenda at best or creating their own narratives at worst. Is there such a thing as independent media, at the scales of a MSNBC, CNN or FOX? Also most of the press in the US is owned by some billionaire, how does that factor into this?
I’d personally like my press to have a little less freedom to grift and a little more discipline to report.
As someone living in a green country, could someone explain how things work in practice in the yellow or orange countries? I understand that in places like Russia or China, journalists can end up in prison, or worse, if the government doesn’t like their writing. But how exactly is the press not free in countries like Canada or most European nations that are labeled yellow here?
And why is the US labeled orange? As far as I know, the media there is highly politically polarized, with most major news organizations openly supporting a particular agenda. That’s certainly a serious issue and not how the press should operate, but even Trump’s government isn’t actively limiting the freedom of the press to report on issues like they see fit? Or am I mistaken? I’m genuinely asking.
I can give you some issues regarding press freedom in Switzerland. One issue is the Federal Banking Act which is a major concern because it can lead to self-censorship among journalists. If a journalist reports on leaked bank data, even if it’s in the public interest, they risk facing criminal prosecution and up to three years in prison.
Adding to this, recent legislative changes have made it easier for individuals and companies to obtain injunctions against upcoming press publications. Previously, they had to prove that the publication would cause considerable damage, but now they just need to feel that it will affect them.

Trump is supposed to be on the bourgeois side but he constantly does weird shit so the bourgies don’t feel safe around him anymore (maybe).
Trump is actively attacking what is left of independent media. He has threatened journalists with prison, he has been using our agencies to punish media, he has filed countless lawsuits and he signed an executive order defunding our public broadcasting. Things are getting really bad here
In the yellow countries, it’s likely the concentration of titles in too few hands as a lot of media end up being bought up by the same few groups to output the same stories.
